HOBBIES
Sports
Sports have always been a passion and though not much justice has been forthcoming to this deep-rooted interest in recent times, the desire for games is strong as ever. The rare occasions when I get to play basketball does remind me of the directly proportional relation between age and fitness. These days I am more or less regular at Badminton – never been a good player but still enjoy it for two reasons. The first is that it provides a good workout and as for the second – it makes friends envious, as I play badminton at the Women’s club ;-).
Gold is a sport that I accidentally took to. Those were the days when I was actively playing Basket Ball and to me then - gold was nothign more than an old man's game. I once challenged my dad - a regular golfer - that I could trash him with just two months of time to practice. I made the mistake of taking his offer of putting my money where my mouth is -- expensive as it turned out to be. But I did give him a good fight and with that, also developed a fascination for the game.
Magic
Jack of all trades and good at none? Well, I would like to think I was good in many, but never overly excelled in my hobbies through sustained focus and peseverence. Magic was certainly once such passing fantasy, which I gave up in a couple of years, but not before doing three stage shows and several Table hopping magic performances. For a while it was all very interesting, but then soon the balance of equations between the thrill derived and the practice and preparation required, became unfavourable. It was rumoured for a senior magician coerced me to stop practicing magic, as it threatened his standing - not true – David Copperfield had nothing to do with it.
and...
The one big regret is not having learnt to play a musical instrument – did start learning the violin at school but could not get along with the instructor, who I believed had no right to spank. Anyway, it’s never too late.
Being rather adventurous, though not necessarily daring (I hate roller coasters!), often times I go in pursuit of experiences. From being a cultural ambassador to the State of Georgia on a group study exchange programme, to being in the confines of a prison cell in museum (Hmm!!), life continues to be exciting. Keeping friends company for trekking or diving at Kovalam, is an occasional weekend activity. Impulsive decision the saner amongst the living consider crazy, is rather commonplace. Taking work seriously, I believe is a good thing – but taking life itself too seriously, well that something else.
