The 12th Reunion Springfield, Missouri 2000
has been held and is past history. The fifty seven people who attended one or more of the days seemed to enjoy the get-to-gather. Members began arriving at the Ramada Inn North in Springfield, Missouri on Monday the 18th of September. The hospitality room was set up and in operation, in the Ozark A/B room by 2:00 PM that day. Cold drinks and snacks were available through the efforts of Jack Pruitt, Betty Weeks, Marcella Garner and Glenda and Bob Landis and were available throughout the reunion. Renewal of friendships began that afternoon.

On Tuesday the 19th, the hospitality room was opened again and registration of members began at about 9:00 AM and continued as members arrived at the Ramada. Those who had over paid for the picnic, (there seemed to be some confusion understanding the coupons sent with the reunion letter) the overage was refunded with the new dollar coins. Upon registration the members picked up their name tags and a packet information about the 106th and the city of Springfield.

A number of the members visited the National Guard Armory to view a pictorial exhibit on the Korean War, sent from the National Guard Museum in, Jefferson City, MO. The exhibit covered the war from its beginning in 1950 to the armistice in 1953. There were pictures of some of our Company members in the exhibition. In conjunction with the exhibit, two members of the National Guards 135th Historical Detachment came to the hospitality room and interviewed, on video tape cassette the several members, Harold and Tom Sleeth, Joe Weeks, Harold Baker, Doyle Denney and Chuck Garner about our experiences during and after the war.

They also, copied various photos from albums that had been brought to the reunion by the members. This material will be included and /or used to update the 106th exhibit located at the Missouri National Guard Museum, located at the Guards Headquarters area in Jefferson City, Missouri. At about, 5:00 PM we had a short meeting.

On Wednesday the 20th, about 33 people boarded buses in the motel parking lot and at 7:45AM promptly left for the Day in Branson trip. They arrived at the first of the two shows that they would see, Jennifer in The Morning show, after this show there was shopping at one of the many shopping malls in Branson and a group went to the College of the Ozarks (Hard Work University) where they toured the Ralph Foster museum and other exhibits on the college campus. The groups reassembled for the last show and dinner at Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede. They returned to the motel at about 8:30 PM. Everyone had a great time. Those that did not go on the Branson Day trip visited the exhibit at the Guard armory and other activities in the Springfield area.

Thursday the 21st, the group was "on their own" during the morning at, about 1:00 PM, left the motel, most traveling in a convoy, to the Springfield Parks Departments Ritter Spring Park, about five miles from the motel for the picnic. Enough food was provided by the caterer, it was their own fault if they left the picnic hungry. The left over food was returned to the hospitality room and devoured during the evening. After the meal, Doris Baker, Harold Baker and Jack Pruitt presided over door prize drawings of items donated, through Doris’ efforts, by various business’ in the area. Everyone received a prize of some kind and the males members received an additional one.

Friday the 22nd, members said their farewells and began their journey to their homes.
Those attending this years reunion were: Dudley Hartung, Jim Hornbeak, Betty and Max Fryrear, John Morookian, Eva and Eddy Williamson, Marilyn and Billy Lupton, Dorothy and Glen Wisecup, Dorothy and John Helgason, Jerry Buffington, Merle Urich, Shigeko and Doyle Denney, Shigeko’s nephew, Shirley and Carl Kostelansky, Becky and Ray Hill, Terri Spain, Betty and Howard Spain, Ruth and Lester Owen, Clara and Tony Bosquez, Betty and Joe Weeks, Katheryn and Paul Sloan, Doris Johnson, Sid Smith, Cay and Ted Diard, Venita and Harold Sleeth, Glenda and Bob Landis, Marcella and Chuck Garner, Doris and Harold Baker, Jack Pruitt, Mary and Tom Sleeth, Alma and Harry Walters, Jackie and Buddy Bills, Dolores and John Foster, Jim Moss, Dorothy and Ray Baer.

The 13th Reunion Winter Haven, Flordia 2001
of the Association (the 106th Ordnance Company HM) was held October 8th through October 12th, 2001 in Winter Haven, Florida. This year the reunion was planned and hosted by Jim and Susie Moss who did an OUTSTANDING job. Members began arriving at the Admiral’s Best Western Inn Sunday October 7th and continued throughout the week. They arrived by auto, air, train, boat, horseback and some may have walked. Thirty-one members and guests attended. Seven members paid their membership “dues” although they did not attend the event. The hospitality room was set up, on Sunday and in operation, offering snacks and cold drinks that were provided by Jim and Susie aided by Bob and Glenda Landis. Renewal of friendships began that day.

Monday the 8th, most of the people arrived and made it to the hospitality room and registrated. Nametags were picked up as well as information on the sites in the surrounding area that a person may want to visit. THE FUN HAD BEGUN.

On Tuesday the 9th, after a contenintal breakfast at the motel, 26 of us loaded on a bus at about 7:30AM and headed towards The Kennedy Space Center. We arrived about 1 and ½ hours later after a pleasant drive enjoying the countryside. Arriving at the Entrance Complex where we had to go though a heightened security check (increased due to the events of September the 11th). You were not allowed any sharp items i.e. fingernail clippers, knives etc, backpacks, bags etc and we passed through metal detectors and were scanned by detector wands.

Then, away we go by NASA bus to Launce Site 39 and the Apollo V (moon shot) complex . Observing, on the way, a Bald Eagle nest along the road. After a short introductory movie, about the Apollo program, we toured the complex and exhibits housed in the building. They had a full size rocket mockup, which included the command module and exhibits of the Lunar Lander, moon vehicle, rocket propellant and many others. When finished, we boarded the busses again and returned to the entrance complex. One bus had the thrill of seeing a Bald Eagle on the return trip. At this complex we viewed two shows at the IMAX theaters and the many other space exhibits in the other buildings in the area and one by the The US Fish & Wildlife Service on Merritt Island that is a Wildlife Refuge. At about 4:00PM we boarded the bus for the return trip to the motel, a 1 and ½ hour’s trip. Arriving in Winter Haven we stopped at a Ryan’s Steak house where a room had been reserved, and the group had dinner, we arrived at the motel at about 7:00PM.

Wednesday October 10th was an “On Your Own” day. The majority of those present walked the 500 feet to the Cypress Gardens. Here we enjoyed the Botanical Gardens, animal zoo areas, ice-skating and water skiing shows and a 40-minute paddle wheel boat tour of the lake while receiving a narrative history of the Gardens and lake. We also rode the “Sky Island” which was a revolving platform lifting to 153 feet into the air and listening to a German band playing in the “Crossroads” below. The garden was having an Octoberfest celebration.

Thursday the 11th the scheduled bus trip to Disney World was cancelled because not enough members signed up for the trip to pay for the bus. Some members did make the trip to Disney by private auto, about a 1-hour trip. At about 4:00PM we had a short business? Meeting. No one stepped forward to plan and host next year’s reunion and no dates were decided. We met for a buffet dinner at 7:00PM in a room at the motel.

Friday October 12th, Farewells and goodbyes and the journey home.
Those attending this year’s reunion were: Jim and Susie Moss. Harry and Alma Walters, John and Dolores Foster, Jerry Buffington, Chuck and Rose Johnson, Ray and Dorothy Baer, Buddy and Jackie Bills, Joe and Betty Weeks, Merle Urich, Bob and Glenda Landis, Bill and Marilyn Lupton, Paul and Katheryn Sloan, Ted and Cay Diard. The 15th Reunion Tahlequah, Oklahoma 2003
The 2003 reunion was convened in Tahlequah, Oklahoma the 5th of October at the Holiday Inn Express. This reunion was hosted be Jerry and Glenda Buffington. The meeting room was set up and in operation as the members arrived at the motel. Fifteen members and their spouses were in attendance plus three guests. Members were greeted near a table of handouts containing information about Tahlequah and the surrounding area plus an abundance of snacks and cold drinks.

Members, who brought their usual and/or unusual photos and materials to peruse, placed them on the table to be viewed. As the members were renewing their old friendships and catching up on each others happening during the past year, the ladies gathered together and a large group visited the local Cherokee Keetoowah Bingo and Casino club for a few "games" of chance?. There were no reports of winnings or losses. When they returned they set down and opened the card game "99" which continued during the remainder of the reunion.

Dinner time arrived and we broke up to have individual meals at restaurants in the surrounding area. Most attendees wound up at either the Kettle or Katfish Kitchen both within walking distance of the motel. After dinner, members returned to the meeting room continued their "catching up" and 99 game.

Monday October 6th:

The day opened bright and cheery and we began assembling in the motel breakfast room for the continental breakfast, provided by the motel. Each of us partook in the provided fare and the coffee pot that never went dry. Before the motel chased us out of the room, the meeting room was opened and we began to assemble there to wait the departure time for out trip to the Cherokee Heritage Center. We left the motel at about 9:30 AM to assemble at the Heritage Center by 10:00 AM, it was only a short drive, and we convoyed arriving at about 9:45. We met our guide at the Tsa La Gi Amphitheater who walked us through the theater giving us a history of the Cherokee Nation, the theater and explained the significance of the Center. He led us on a tour, where we passed through the heritage farm area, which is home to many of the typical animals of the 1890"s period. Then to Adams Corner Rural Village which is a typical 1890’s rural Cherokee community of buildings etc which had been moved to this site. Then on to the Tsa La Gi ancient village an authentic recreation of a Cherokee settlement as it was prior to the European contact. In this village, the guide explained the types and uses of the buildings including the central council building. In the tour he demonstrated the art of making arrow points, bows and arrows, blow guns and darts and the various uses of each.

He also demonstrated, briefly, basket weaving. The tour then proceeded to the Cherokee Nation Museum, housed in a natural rock building surrounding the surviving columns of the Cherokee Female Seminary. This seminary was the first institution of higher learning for women west of the Mississippi River. After looking at the museums exhibits, at about 12:00 N, we were treated to a lunch of Indian tacos and peach cobbler. The remainder of the day was an "on your own", many visiting sites such as Fort Gibson, Tenkiller Lake, Northeaster State University, the Illinois River, etc.

Tuesday October 7th:

This was the day to visit Har-Ber Village about 60 miles north of Tahlequah. This is a village built by the owners of the Jones Truck Lines in Springdale, Arkansas. It is an outdoor display of various farm equipment, radios, china ware, dolls, buildings etc. Those electing not to travel to this museum were "on their own" touring the Historical Downtown Tahlequah, various shopping areas and, of course the casino. Many stopped for lunch at Kelly’s Tea Room next to the library in downtown. At about 6:00 PM we traveled to Goldies Restaurant for a set down dinner after a short business meeting.

Wednesday October 8th:
