    Unit Histories

    Company K, 2d Alabama (The Magnolia Regiment): Organized in Fort Morgan in April 1861 and disbanded at Fort Pillow, Tennessee, in May 1862. Most of the men went into the 1st Confederate Battalion thereafter. Battle honors: none.

    Company D, 5th Alabama Battalion: Formed in Dumfries, Virginia, 2 December 1861, where mustered into CS service. Originally designated the 8th Alabama Infantry Battalion and redesignated 22 October 1862. Assigned to Wigfall's Brigade, Whiting's Division until April 1862, then to Archer's Brigade, A.P. Hill's/Heth's Division in June 1862, serving until redesignated the Provost Guard for the Third Corps, ANV, in July 1863. Battle honors: Seven Days, Cedar Mountain, 2d Manassas, Harper's Ferry, Sharpsburg, Shepherdstown Ford, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Falling Waters, Bristoe Campaign, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Cold Harbor, Petersburg and surrendered 125 effectives (total battalion) at Appomattox.

    Company A, 7th Tennessee: A Company from Alexandria and DeKalb Counties. Mustered into CS service at Camp Trousdale, Sumner County, July 1861. Arrived at Staunton, Va., 25 July 1861. Assigned to the Tennessee-Anderson's-Brigade. Battle honors: Bath, Mechanicsbville, Gaines' Mill, Cedar Run, 2d Manassas, Harper's Ferry, Sharpsburg, Shepherdstown, Fredericksburg Chancellorsville, Gettysburg (Pickett's Charge), Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Petersburg Siege, Appomattox. Had 46 per cent casualties at Gettysburg. Surrendered 6 officers and 41 men.

    Company B, 4th Texas: The Tom Green Rifles, Austin City Light Infantry. Organized in Austin, Texas, as the Quitman Rifles in 1858 and merged into a regiment in Richmond 30 September 1861. Assigned to Texas Brigade. Battle honors: Eltham Landing, Seven Pines, Seven Days, Gaines' Mill, Malvern Hill, Freeman's Ford, 2d Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Washington Siege, Washington, Suffolk Campaign, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Wauchatchie, Knoxville Siege, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Cold Harbor, Petersburg Siege, New Market Heights, Chaffin's Farm, Fort Gilmer, Williamsburg Road, Appomattox. Had 54 per cent casualties at Sharpsburg. Surrendered 15 officers and 145 men.

    Company E, 9th Virginia: Isle of Wright Blues, organized in Isle of Wright County, enlisted 27 May 1861; reorganized 3 May 1862. Assigned to Armistead's, Barton's, Stuart's Brigade. Battle honors: Seven Pines, Seven Days, Malvern Hill, 2nd Manassas, South Mountain, Sharpsburg, Shepherdstown Ford, Fredericksburg, Suffolk Campaign, Gettysburg, Chester Station, Drewry's Bluff, North Anna, Cold Harbor, Peterburg Siege, Five Forks, Sailor's Creek, Appomattox. Had over 50 per cent casualties at Gettysburg. Regiment surrendered two officers and 37 men at Appomattox.

    Company D, 13th Virginia: Louisa Blues Formed in Louisa County April 1861. Served in Early's-Smith's-Pegram's-Walker's Brigade. Battle honors: 1862 Valley Campaign, Seven Days, Cedar Mountain, 2d Manassas, Chantilly, Harper's Ferry, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, 2d Winchester, Bristoe Campaign, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Bethesda Church, Cold Harbor, Monocacy, Ft. Stevens, 3d Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek, Petersburg, Fort Stedman, Appomattox. Surrendered 10 officers and 52 men.

    Company D, 22d Virginia: Nicholas Blues Enlisted in Nicholas County 23 May 1861, reorganized 6 June 1861. Assigned to Patton's-Echol's Brigade. Battle honors: Scarey Creek, Giles Court House, Lewisburg, Kanawha Campaign, West Virginia Raid, White Suphur Springs, Droop Mountain, New Market, North Anna, Cold Harbor, Lynchburg, Monocacy, 3d Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek. Had 21 per cent casualties at Droop Mountain. Disbanded, spring 1865.

    Company B, 27th Virginia: Virginia Hibernians Enlisted in Alleghany County 15 May 1861; regiment formed 30 May. Part of the 1st Virginia "Stonewall" Brigade. Battle honors: First Manassas, Romney, 1862 Valley Campaign, Seven Days, Cedar Mountain, Groveton, 2d Manassas, Harper's Ferry, Sharpsburg, Kearneyville, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, 2d Winchester, Gettysburg, Mine Run, Morton's Ford, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Behtesda Church, Cold Harbor, Lynchburg Campaign, Monocacy, 2d Kernstown, Wincheste, Newton, Sheperdstown, 3d Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek, Petersburg, Hatcher's Run, Ft. Stedman, Saylor's Creek, Appomattox. Regiment had losses of 141 at First Manassas, 30 per cent at Gettysburg. Surrendered 1 officer and 20 men at Appomattox.

    Company B, 30th Virginia: Fredericksburg Rifle Grays. Organized in Fredericksburg 1859. Enlisted into CS service 22 April 1861, reorganized 16 April 1862. Assigned to defense of Fredericksburg, then Walker's, Cooke's, Corse's Brigade. Battle honors: Malvern Cliff, Sharpsburg, Drewry's Bluff, Cold Harbor, Petersburg (Howlet Line), Five Forks, Sailor's Creek, Appomattox. Had 66 per cent losses at Sharpsburg. Surrendered 8 officers and 82 men, where the regiment's bugler played the last recall of the army.

    Company I, 42nd Virginia: Campbell Guards. Enlisted in Lynchburg 11 July 1861, reorganized 21 April 1862. Assigned to Burks'-Gilham's-Burks'-Campbell's-JR Jones'-JM Jones-Terry's Consolidated Brigade. Battle honors: Shenandoah Valley Campaign, Seven Days, Gaines' Mill, White Oak Swamp, Malvern Hill, Cedar Mountain, 2d Manassas, Harper's Ferry, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, 2d Winchester, Gettysburg, Bristoe Campaign, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Cold Harbor, Lynchburg Campaign, Monocacy, 3d Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek, Petersburg Siege, Fort Stedman, Appomattox. Had 135 casualties at Chancellorsville. Surrendered 1 officer and 44 men.

    63rd Virginia: Organized in May 1862. Assigned to Kelly's, Reynolds', Brown's, and Reynold's Consolidated and Palmer's Brigade, Army of Tennessee. Fought from Chickamauga to Atlanta, Franklin, and Nashville, and was active in North Carolina. Merged into the 54th Virginia Infantry Battalion on April 9, 1865.

    Huckstep's 1st Fluvanna Artillery: Sons of Fluvanna. Organized in Fluvanna County 20 June 1861. Consolidated with the 2d Fluvanna Artillery Battery 4 October 1862. Assigned to reserve artillery, A.N.V. Battle honors: Yorktown, Seven Days, Shepherdstown Ford.
