I was thinking of setting up this page as a place for the guys that went over to Somalia to send in any funny or serious stories of some of the shit
that went on there. I heard one such story of a firefight over there. I was told that some members of 2 Cdo were doing perimeter security around the far end of
the runway. As everyone was in dug-in positions around 2300 hrs the sky was lite up with green and red tracers flying all over the place.
A officer came running to the H.Q. position and was concerned that if the troops returned fire, he wanted to ensure that everyone knew were the H.Q. position was ?.
He told one of the troops to tape a green chem lite on the end of a 10 ft. whip to show the troops where they were located. The troops strongly protested because as soon as that
antenna went up all the fire would be directed to their location. But the officer being an officer disagreed and said, carry on!. Well as soon as that antenna went up what do you know, snap,crack, snap crack.
Apparently some of the boys snickered(probably more harsher words) at the redfaced officer and as fast as it went up it came right back down. Go figure!
So if you think I should put another Logbook here for your stories for everyone to read, TFE, I will.
As for the story, I don't know if this happened but it came from a pretty good source.
