Rainbow Bridge Scilla Starsky and Hutch Pepsi
RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

SCILLA (1971? - 1987)
Scilla was a Russian Blue who came to us when her owners emmigrated and didn't want to take her with them. She was a really independant cat, often staying out all night and then coming back with a mouse or bird as a present for us in the morning. She was also a really loving cat who would push her way onto your knees and sit for hours allowing you the priviledge of stroking her.
I remember the times when mum would call upstairs at night and ask if I knew where the cat was because she wasn't in her bed. Without fail I'd say I didn't know when there she was, under the blankets with me purring away.
When I was young I used to think about how she'd probably pass over the bridge when I was about 15 and dreaded the thought. Happily I was wrong, she went on until I was 20. Leaving home for university after Christmas 1986 I had a feeling I'd not see her again as she had become very thin and could no longer jump up to the boiler, her favourite spot. My mum called me in February to say that she had died in her arms on the way to the vets - I cried for days and even now, over 10 years on get misty eyed when thinking about her.
STARSKY and HUTCH
Starsky and Hutch were 2 dutch rabbits I had as a child. I remember pestering my mum for a rabbit for my birthday and the joy when she finally gave in. We got them from a local farm and put them into a gleaming white hutch my dad had built for them.
To be honest I don't remember how long we had them for although I do remember the times that Starsky would eat through the chicken wire and escape into the garden. How he as never caught by one of the neighbourhood cats I don't know.
I guess it was when I was about 15 that we lost them. I came home from school one day and went out to feed and clean them. I found the mesh had been chewed and Starsky was missing, Hutch was dead on the floor. What happened I'll never know, but I could swear that the local wild rabbit population began to show black and white markings :-)
PEPSI
After Scilla passed away my mum didn't have a cat for ages. We talked about getting one but just never got round to it. I remember it was near Christmas and I was home from University. I'd gone to a local village to get some ice cream and had seen a notice offering abandoned kittens free to a good home. Withouht hesitation I phoned the number on the card and went round to see what turned out to be 3 or 4 week old kittens. The old lady who had them said she couldn't afford to look after them any more so I took one and went straight to my vet. Despite being so young and small (she could sit in the palm of my hand) the vet said she was in quite good condition so home she came. Dad wasn't best pleased, but I think mum was - well who wouldn't be with such a cute ball of fluff?
Pepsi grew to be a right little monster, climbing up the walls and curtains and sharpening her claws on the wallpaper. A lap cat she certainly wasn't, we all had the scars to prove it!
Unfortunately she didn't live long, a year at most. One night a neighbour came round and said there was a dead cat in the road. my mum went out and found it was Pepsi. She took her to the vets immediately but there was nothing to be done - she had been hit by a car.
