Hello! I'm Lynne --- I thought you might like to know how I began my love affair with Chihuahuas and how they became one of my life's passions.
I was introduced to my first Chihuahua when I was a wee child. Over the years, we had several Panchos, a Pablo, a couple Ticos, and a PePe.
I found my first pet, "BabyGirl".
BabyGirl was the most strikingly marked Chihuahua I had ever seen - so shiny black and so tiny!! She was marked exactly like a Boston Terrier. She was the sweetest and most wonderful little dog. Upon moving to Houston, Texas, I decided I wanted to try to breed her. So, I made contact with a lady there who lived on Poco Road by the name of Irene Matzke for stud service. BabyGirl never got bred and never had puppies, but Irene and I became good friends. She was a wonderful, wise lady and had several lovely show dogs. She showed me her beautiful pictures, trophies, plaques, ribbons and rosettes, took me to a couple local dog shows, and became my friend and mentor. I was hooked!! I will always fondly remember our visits, frank discussions, debates, and countless evenings when we would meet out in parking lots and train dogs where she would demonstrate handling techniques, ring procedure and proper ring etiquette.
I lost my good friend and mentor Irene to stomach cancer. She left several dogs to me, as well as many of her personal 'doggie' effects. I moved on, and decided to carry the name she started - "POCO HACIENDA", in her honor and memory. Since then, breeding and showing quality Chihuahuas as a hobby has been one of my passions. A limited, selective hobby operation, I emphasize ethically committed breeding to the AKC recognized standard for consistency in size, type, and quality. .
Along my journey, I have also had extensive "hands on" experience with several other breeds as well through friends and have shown, owned or bred a couple different breeds -- just to "play" with in the show ring. I have shown Weimeraners, Norwegian Elkhounds, Dachsunds, Keeshonden, Maltese, Shih Tzu, Poms, Yorkies, Bichon, Brittany, SharPei, American Foxhounds, MinPins and Siberian Huskies. I have bred MinPins and Siberians.
My goal has always been to promote and protect this breed and to breed healthy, strong, sturdy dogs that live long lives and contribute something positive. But most importantly, to have fun with and enjoy them! The challenge of planning and creating something of strength and beauty has brought me so much pleasure - it has been and still is an absolute passion. I pride myself in having always set my standards very high and nothing has changed. Mediocrity is not in my vocabulary and I was raised on the philosophy that if you are going to do something, do it to the best of your ability, always strive for the highest standard level, or don't do it at all. Breeding beautiful dogs has been and always will be, a work in progress.
