In the 1880 census of Kings Co, NY, Nellie and her two children were living with her parents. There was no mention of the whereabouts of Henry. But Henry A. Middleton, clerk living on 296 9th was listed in the Brooklyn City Directory. But Nellie and Henry did have Henry in 1882 according to the Brooklyn birth records. By the time the 1892 city directory came out, Nellie was listed as the "widow of Henry".

In the 1900 Brooklyn census Nellie was shown as being born in March 1860 (40yrs old) and living alone. Was this the same Nellie? If this is the same "Cousin Nellie" as mentioned in Marjorie Leighton's baby book, then she was still alive
in 1914, when Marjorie was born. Parents: Benjamin Packer MIDDLETON and Angeline FISH.

On Aug. 8, 1893, in the Mystic ,New London Co. newspaper, there was an obituary notice for a John Middleton, from Mystic. The article stated that John was a tea merchant who had been living in Yokahama, Japan. It also made reference to "the large estate. . . recently occupied by the Penfield family, and known as the Middleton place, since it belonged to Mr. Middleton's family, etc"

In the 1900 Kings Co., NY census, John's second wife, Lillian, was listed as a widow having had no children. She was a nurse. I am unsure as to the whereabouts of John III, the son of John and Cornelia.

John also was in the raw silk importing business with Japan. Parents: John MIDDLETON and Sophia MANDEVILLE.

He was married to Cornelia HART on 3 Aug 1859. Children were: John_MIDDLETON, III.

Children were: Alexander Center MIDDLETON, Lillie MIDDLETON.

The family shown here were found in the Kings Co. 1900 and 1910 census. There is no proof yet that this John is for sure the son of George W and Anna, except the birth dates and birthplaces are the same.

In the 1910 Kings Co. census, John was a widower. Emma seems to have died after the birth of Mildred in 1902 and before 1910. Parents: George Walworth MIDDLETON and Anna Rebecca KETCHUM .

I have found some discrepencies concerning this child. The 1880 NY, NY census shows that Charles and Florence have a six year old son named Charles M., Jr. Then the 1880 NY,NY census enumerates a child by the name of John C., age 26. Is this the same child, with an error in the naming? Parents: Charles N MIDDLETON and Martha HEBRON.

I am not sure of the whereabouts of this person. But in the Kings Co, NY 1910 census there is a listing for a John Middleton, born 1862 in N.Y. married to an Evelyn. They have a 17 year old son named Cornelius. I have no proof this is the correct John, but his mother's name was Cornelia, so this could be a connection. I can't find this family in either 1900 or 1920. I am adding this information now, and can change at a later date if proof is found one way or the other. Parents: John MIDDLETON and Cornelia HART.
