Draco Shelties Loving, Training and Showing Shetland Sheepdogs since 1977 Welcome to Draco Shelties, home of Obedience and Conformation Champions. Use the links on the left to visit with us. I'm Hallie, and I began competing with our first
Sheltie, Rusty, in 1978. I was approved as an AKC Obedience
Judge in 1996, and am currently approved for Novice and Open classes.
I am a member of the American Shetland Sheepdog Association, the Papillon
Club of America, the Central Virginia Shetland Sheepdog Club and the Richmond
Dog Obedience Club, where I am newsletter editor.

If you are looking for a puppy, please note we are not currently breeding. I would recommend you contact Jane Hammett, Shadow Hill's Shelties, in North Carolina, or Carol Howell, Jade Mist Shelties, in Maryland. Either of these ladies would be a valuable resource in locating a good quality Sheltie, for pet or for show. In searching for a happy, healthy Sheltie, beware that there are many unscrupulous breeders, who are more interested in money than in quality dogs. Be sure your breeder knows about, and takes steps to eliminate from his or her breeding program, such inherited health problems as hip dysplasia, central progressive retinal atrophy (CPRA, or Sheltie Eye Syndrome), hypothyroidism, von Willebrand's Bleeding Disorder, Sheltie Skin Syndrome (dermatomyositis), and epilepsy. Only buy a puppy with a good temperament and a health guarantee, from a dedicated breeder who shows successfully in conformation, obedience and/or agility shows. |
