Jester's Perch

Hi! My name is Jester, and I'm a maroon belly conure. I hatched on January 12, 1998, so I'm 3 years old. My mom calls me a "he", but she doesn't actually know if I'm a boy or a girl, so I may just suprise her some day by laying eggs. ;-) I have a huge cage with lots of toys for me to play with while mom is busy or at work. But when mom comes in I hang on the front of the cage and look as cute as I can (which is VERY cute!) so she'll get me out.

And I have a little playgym, which I'll sit on, but I'd rather be with mom, so when she puts me there I bob my head at her and beg her to come play with the poor parrot.

I started talking when I was 9 months old. I say "Hi Jester", "Hi Jester Pester", "cute parrot", "pretty parrot", "Jester pester pest", "Hi there!", "Whatchdoin?", "Pet the Parrot!", "Kiss the Parrot!", "Scary!", "'SOkay" and the dog's name, "Tristan!". I also mix up the words to make my own sentences, like "cute Jester parrot!"

I impressed mom a lot once. Tristan, the dog, likes to sneak into her bedroom (where I live) and eat kleenex out of her wastebasket. Twice in the same day she heard me yelling "Tristan! Tristan! Tristan! Tristan!" over and over, and when she came to check on me the dog was there getting into the trash. Now she tells people I'm a tattletale.

Mom was less pleased when she realized that a new screech I'd added to my repetoire was actually an imitation of the sound she makes when she blows her nose. Now whenever she does it, I repeat the sound loudly. It's a lot of fun. I'm learning her cough and sneeze too.

My mom got a water bottle for me, so I wouldn't keep yucking up my water by dunking pellets in it. Fortunately I'm a smart bird, so now I take each pellet and push it against the ball in the spout of the bottle to get it wet before I eat it.

My Favorite things to do:

Throw toys on the floor and watch mom pick them up, so I can throw them again.
Have mom skritch my head and get the sheaths off those itchy pinfeathers.
Take a bath and splash water as far as possible.
Dunk my pellets in my water before I eat them.
Squawk back and forth to the birds downstairs.
Talk to mom while she's in the bathroom and get her to answer me.
Give mom kisses, and make kissy noises.
Chew on mom's glasses and prune (not just preen) her hair.
Pluck the little tiny hairs off mom's arms, legs, or face.
Bob my head at the conure in the mirror while mom's brushing her teeth and combing her hair.
Chew through the loops that hold up my Happy Hut.
Climb anything within reach (especially mom).
Tunnel around under things, like the paper in the bottom of my cage, the bedsheets, or mom's clothes, while making happy muttering noises.

My Favorite Foods:

Grapes, Strawberries (I eat the seeds off first), Tomato, Carrots, Dried Chick Peas (Garbanzo Beans), Banana, Peas in the Pod, Corn on the Cob, Nutriberries (cockatiel, tropical fruit and El Paso), Apple, Lima beans, birdie cornbread (with pellets and veggies in it) and Lobster (mom gives me the little legs).
