My new momma has had some aussies before. I am the first black one tho. My face kinda looks like the famous Felix. I have a nice white blaze like he had. I also have freckles on my face and legs, and the most beautiful deep rich copper trim - I am a very handsome dog!
Do you like my picture? It was taken by the nice folks at the Australian Shepherd Rescue Photo Page, if you want to have a look! That's where my momma first saw me. I was also known as ARPH #1785.
ARPH stands for Aussie Rescue and Placement Helpline. They are the folks who rescued me from the shelter. You can contact them by calling their toll-free phone number, 1-800-892-ASCA. Momma contacted the ARPH rep in Florida and she sent her an application to fill out, just like it says on the web page.
When Felix went to the Rainbow Bridge, my momma promised that her next aussie would be a rescue dog. That's cuz there are already too many dogs (and cats) in the world who need good homes. And I was one of them!! I'm glad she decided to do that. I had an operation on December 28th, so there will be no little Max's running around. It was OK, but my stitches really itched a lot, so my foster momma, Kim, made me wear a funny thing she called an Elizabethan collar. Looked like one of those lamp shade thingys to me!
Guess what? When I first met my momma and she took me home with her, we went on a long ride over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and she drove me to her house. I was allowed to get out of the car and go into her back yard. She went and opened her back door, and my sister Sara came out and we got to sniff each other. Oscar was still looking out the front door, momma was calling him, but he didn't hear her. She left the door open and he eventually came out and we met.
Momma played fetch with me, and I brought that tennis ball right back to her each time. Then, momma fed all of us - Sara, Oscar and ME! That din-din sure was great! I ate it all up, too!
Everytime momma opens the door, I want to be the first one out! Sometimes Sara would beat me, but not always! I have to be polite, cuz she was a girl, and older 'n me, so I would let her out first sometimes.
Then, someone who momma said was my Uncle John came over to see me. I barked to protect my momma and my brother and sister when I heard his car in the driveway. He brought his little boy in to see me. He kept saying how pretty I was, and soft, and well behaved. I thought, of course I am all of those things!
Momma loves to pet me and play fetch with me. She says I run fast! I just love to run is all. I like it best when she has the back door open and we can run around and around. Sara would run with me, but old Oscar just used to stand there. Momma used to say it was because he was OLD. I don't know what that means. Oh well, I have enough energy for everyone around here I guess.
Momma calls me a "Destructo Dog," just cuz I like to chew things up. I like to eat paper, momma's socks, her shirts, shoes, money, beads, needlepoint frames, well, just about anything is really fair game for me. The way I figure it, if it is in the house, it's mine. Sounds about right to y'all, huh? I thought so!
The best time of day is when momma comes home from work. She lets me out and gives me din-din (I LOVE my din-din), and then I run and run. Momma says I am very enthusiastic. I don't know what that means, but I also like to cuddle with my momma. I get black hair all over her, that's how much I like to cuddle.
I can reach all sorts of things on the counters. Momma said I am a "Master Counter Surfer." I guess that I am, because I can reach all sorts of things up on the counters. Not as much as my bud, LJ, can though! He's really good at getting things off the counters, plus he just butts right in when momma is still standing there, too! I would NEVER be so bold as that!!!!!
LJ has said some really great things about me on his page, and I just wanted to assure you that they are all true! I have taken the little fella under my wing - er, paw - and have taught him how to get good things to eat from our Momma. She first gave me the best toy in the world, a "Rope-Thing" - it's a nice thick rope that I can play with, and toss up in the air, and chase when Momma throws it for me! Then she bought both us a couple of Kongs, and she always fills them with cookies so we can play with them while she works as a Medical Technologist.
LJ and me (and momma of course) moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in December, 2000! We've got snow up here even. It's a lot of fun to play in the snow, but for some reason, momma says it's too cold to play for very long. Oh well. That's when we get to come inside, and LJ and I run from one end of the house to the other. Momma bought me a bag of sugar to eat - well, she didn't REALLY mean for me to eat it, it just happened - but after I ate it, I didn't feel too good, so I gave the sugar back to momma. She didn't want it though and she got rid of it. I like Christmas, there's always something good to eat.
My momma has wonderful news! She's going to go to school to become a Vet Tech!!! That means she will get to take care of all sorts of critters, especially DOGS!
Guess what, peoples? I just got my first ever award, just for being a nice dog! It came from my momma's friend Lynnie and her pals, Scooter and Stubby.
Momma and I say thanks to Lynnie and Scooter and Stubby!
