We have done this page for those who are not readers and did not want to present anything on books,etc. China is a huge country with lots of different facets. These are just a few. We did this page a long time for another activity and decided to use it this month as a means for members to earn points.



Animals & Holidays of China

The "National" animal of China is the Panda

and their flower is the Tree Peony.




THE PEKINGESE

The Pekingese was held sacred in China in ancient times, the land of its origin. They were bred and preserved at the Imperial Palace for centuries. It is a dignified little dog who can sometimes be stubborn.

The Pekingese has long, straight, thick profuse coats which requires regular brushing to prevent knots and mats from forming.

The Pekingese is a good dog for a small city apartment, but will be just as happy in a rural setting.



CHINESE SHAR PEI

The Chinese Shar Pei was only recently saved from extinction. The name "Shar-Pei" literally means "sand-skin". The Chinese Shar-Pei is regal, alert, intelligent, and dignified. He may appear independent, snobbish, and standoffish with strangers but is extremely devoted to his family.

The Chinese Shar-Pei has been described as "people dogs," preferring the companionship of humans to that of other dogs.




CHINESE NEW YEAR (or Spring Festival)

Chinese New Year begins on 16 February.
2004 will be the Year of the Monkey. The Chinese
name twelve animals representing 12 years in a cycle

Famous people like Will Smith, Julius Caesar, Lord Byron,
Elizabeth Taylor , de Vinci, Harry S. Truman,
and Jennifer Anniston are signed under the monkey.

DRAGON BOAT RACE

The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is a significant holiday
celebrated in China, and the one with the longest history.

MID-AUTUMN MOON FESTIVAL
On the fifteenth day of the eighth moon of the lunar
calendar, traditional Chinese families and their friends
gather together, watch the moon and celebrate this holiday.
