"Sadie" is truly lucky to be alive. Her previous owner, an unethical breeder, had kept her confined to an outdoor pen her entire life. She had no medical care. She was used to churn out litter after litter of puppies, like the puppies that are advertised in the newspaper. The breeder was not pleased with her last litter, and blamed her for what he felt was their "poor" quality. Allegedly, he then took a shotgun to the litter and killed all the pups. Next, he was going to shoot "Sadie," but a kind soul intervened.
The caring individual brought Sadie to Animal Welfare League, and it was learned that she was heartworm positive. Additionally, her years of abuse became very apparent- she was very shy and timid, and did not want to be approached. Once she learned that she could trust the staff, she began warming up. In fact, when her favorite staff members approached the cage, she would "smile!" Her lips actually curled up in the cutest little smile. It was amazing that despite all that the breeder had done to her, her spirit was not broken.
Animal Welfare League's "Make a Difference" fund has made a commitment to Sadie and is paying for her heartworm treatment.
DalSavers, dalmatian rescue, has warmly accepted "Sadie" into their program. They will place "Sadie" in a new home once her heartworm treatment is completed. To help other dogs like "Sadie," please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the "Make a Difference" fund.
