Quirks: Nursing on my ear lobe, likes to lie on his
back in my lap with his front legs spread for an "arm-
pit" rub, drinks from the faucet, rubbernecks at him-
self in mirrors.
History:
Chester's is a backhanded rescue. It was actually his mother that I rescued
from the pound. She & her kittens were scheduled for euthanization that
day & I couldn't bear for that to happen! The lady there was really sweet
and let me take them both home. Since I really coudn't take on another where
I was living at the time, the brother, "Paws" went to a cat loving friend &"Digit"
went to my kid sister. Digit snuck out on my sister & got pregnant. Chester was
in that first litter & the only one with extra toes.
Unlike Fresca, Chester only has extra toes on his front feet. There are six on each
front foot and as you can see, they look like little hands. Also like Fresca, Chester
has a phenomenal grip! He's great at catching toys, too! :-)
Chester is an odd mix of gentle & rowdy. While he's quiet & laid back, most of the
time, he also keeps the main "terrorist," (See: Dif-"fur"-nitions) Bruno (See: The
Bru' Clan) in line.
For whatever reason, Bru is scared silly of Chester when Chester gets "on one!"
(Dif-"fur"-nitions again) I can't count the times that I've seen Bru sneaking up on
someone, only to turn around & see Chester sneaking up on him! That's all Bru needs
to forget about his attackee! He sees Chester & he's gone!
Actually, Chester is the only cat in the herd who doesn't get picked on. I don't know why
that is but when any of the other cats interact with Chester, it's usually to cuddle up or to
play. Cimmaron and Lucky are most often his playmates. When they play, it can be pretty
hair-raising!
One of Chester's cutest quirks is to rubberneck at himself in the mirror. In the pic below,
I caught him in the act. That boy could give dance lessons! I swear he must be part owl!
He moves his head in circles and from side to side so quickly, it makes me wonder if there's
even any bone, there! :-)
Another cuteness of Chester's is that he loves "armpit" rubs. Actually, he likes to be rubbed
anywhere within reason. For the armpit rubs, he flops on his back in my lap and spreads
his front legs. Sometimes, when I pull one leg out for better access, the other automatically
reaches out in the other direction. Then he flops his head back and enjoys himself. It's
pretty bizarre looking as it seems like I'm trying to pull his leg off. When I get a picture of
this, you'll be able to see for yourself that my sweet son is having a good time! :-)
Chester doesn't have a whole lot to say unless he's on the way to the bathroom for a drink
fresh from the tap. He's never been much of a talker and it usually sounds like he's com-
plaining. Sometimes, when he goes to pick on Bru, he'll say something. Most times, that's
all it takes for Bru to skedaddle.
Chester is also special for his survival of cryptococcus (Winchester). That was a rough
row to hoe! My sweet son is healthy, happy & ready to defend the helpless from the "ter-
rorists" of the herd. When it's time to sleep, I can always count on a visit from him to first,
knead his big paws on my neck & then, settle in the crook of my arm for another nap.
Now why can't I get him to do this Mom! I just woke up!
