History:

In March 1998 , Tammy told me that she wanted to give me a special birthday present. She really didn't

want to tell me what it was. She had to, though. It was to be one of her kittens! She knew that I fell for her baby,

Biata Beaute (See: Tay's Babies) and she had just the kitten in mind. She needed her daughter's go-ahead, though,

as the baby was technically hers. Andrea agreed and the kitty with the phenomenal name was to become mine!

Andrea chose Kitana's name and I had no desire to rename her! Tammy described her as laid back, extremely

loving and tough. She was going to have to be in order for her to get along here! :-) First however, I wanted to

have her tested for the viral diseases that are contagious and fatal. Tammy was going to have it done. She kept

running into problems financially and with catching my new baby when it was time to leave. As a result, Kitana

didn't actually join me until June, 1999.

I hadn't seen any of Tay's kittens since they were babies. Tammy had described Kitana to me as a short haired

version of Tay. I couldn't wait to meet her! Finally, the day came when Tammy was able to take her for the tests.

I had made sure to coincide with two of my cats' general exams for the same day and time. To me, it was too soon

after Shadow's passing and I was terrified for Kitana!

My fears turned out to be ungrounded, thankfully! :-) As my vet was examining Shades, she told me that my

new baby tested negative and that she was a beautiful, sweet kitty! I was really anxious to see her, then! As soon

as I had Hazy Mist back in the carrier, I was asking to meet my newest daughter! :-) Everyone was right! There,

in one of the upper cubicals, was Kitana. She is the image of her mother, though short haired. Her eyes are a

lovely shade of silver with blue rings around the pupils...beautiful! She stood there greeting anyone who came

near, rubbing her lovely little head on the cage door. There was no show of fear or nervousness, just a friendly

meow and rubbing on anyone who reached in to pet her! :-) I fell in love!

Bringing her home, I knew what to expect from the Herd. They didn't disappoint me, either! There were the

usual growls and stalkings. Once or twice, Hazy Mist took a slap at my newest baby. I knew, though, that none

of the cats were out to seriously hurt Kitana. My oldest, Beau behaved as though nothing had changed! Kitana,

for her part, responded with small growls of her own and defended herself with the confidence of the young! :-)

It didn't take but a few days before the first members of the Herd had accepted Kitana. They livened up the

house, considerably! I'd forgotten how much fun it was to have a rowdy kitten in the house! :-) Hazy & Shades

were the last to officially accept their new sister but when they did, they did it, together! Kitana was under the

loveseat when the sisters decided to initiate her their way. Kitana's tail was sticking out from under the loveseat

when Shades attacked it. Kitana startled Shades by lunging out to grab Shades' feet and the war was on! Hazy

saw what was happening and started attacking Kitana from the other side! After a while of "loveseat war," the

three have gotten along, famously! :-) Incidentally, Kitana held her own with the two big girls, proving Tammy's

description of "tough!" :-)

Kitana has calmed down somewhat as she's matured but she still keeps things jumping! Cimmaron is her most

frequent playmate but my little lady doesn't discriminate! She hasn't yet figured out that Gabby doesn't want to

play with her. We think that Kitana likes to chase Gabby because she hollers a lot! :-) She'd earned the "terrorist"

title (See: Dif-"fur"-nitions) for her "Gabby stalking!" :-) Every night, a rousing game of "chase" is played,

featuring Kitana and one or more of new new siblings. One night, we had a 4-cat war going on that was a lot of

fun to watch! :-) They were taking turns playing with Kitana. When one grew tired, someone else jumped in! I

wish I could have gotten pictures! :-(

Since Gabby and Shakey's departure, Kitana always finds a playmate when she's in the mood. She one of my

computer cuddle-bugs. Many an email I've sent with Kitana's own unique spelling added to my own! Hehehe!

All in all, Kitana has been one of the best birthday presents I've ever gotten! She's not only a scrapper but a

lover as well! Her loving side is every bit as intense as her playful side!  When I relax of an evening, she's one of my

cuddlers and her purr is a precious thing to hear! The little lady will let us get away with anything! All she wants

is that time and attention. I don't disappoint her, either! Kitana turned out to be a beautiful, bright addition to

the Herd and a joy to everyone who meets her!
