Little Bit Full Name: Little Bit Nickname: Precious little lady cat B-day: Unknown in 1994 Crossed: July 1996 Quirks: Didn't get to know her well enough to find out. History: Unforunately, I don't know very much about Little Bit's history. The only thing that I know for sure is that the family who took her in and bottle fed her ulti- mately abandoned her ( see Sundown at Love on Tap for more details)! When the family left, Little Bit was pregnant and not for the first time, either. They did tell me that her other litters had died. She was very shy of me until after the family left her. I was feeding her outside be- cause I had no interior doors at the time. I had no way to separate her from the other cats and she was in the mother-to-be state of defensiveness. I made sure, though that she had shelter when it rain- ed. She shared the herd's food, plenty of water and lots of love. In time, she warmed up considerably to me! She was perfectly content to lie in my lap for hours, kneading, purring & giving me the occasional kitty-kiss. The day arrived when I went outside to spend time with her and noticed that her sides were heaving. I ran inside, grabbed an old blanket and went out to be with her while she gave birth. It breaks my heart to think of the little kitty who ran from me at first, later to bear her kittens in my lap! This she did, literally. The kittens were only partially formed at birth, stillborn. After taking care of the arrangements for the kittens, I tended Little Bit. There was a brownish discharge in the genital area that worried me. Since it was a Sunday, I had to wait until Monday to take her to my vet. My vet was optimistic about Little Bit. She offered to spay her if I would pay for the FeLV test. She knows my financial limits and is very good about working with me. I agreed and went home to wait. It was devastating to find out that she tested posi- tive! My sister, Tammy was there when I received the news. She offered to take me there and take pictures of Little Bit for me. The only option for me was to help her cross the bridge. I couldn't bring her into the herd and the doctor knew of no one who could take her in that condition. When we arrived, I couldn't hold back the tears! My heart still grieves for this precious little lady cat whose only sin was to be excess baggage to an irrespon- ible family!! The doctor allowed me to spend time with her in good- bye. Tammy took the pictures, two of which are here. To- gether we made sure that Little Bit would not cross the bridge abandoned and alone. It was my hope that Little Bit would cross knowing that she was loved. I got my wish. Little Bit's last breath was one long purr. Oh sweetie, how I wish it could have been different! You'd be a healthy, happy part of the herd, now. You'll always belong in my heart! Feline Leukemia Last Angel: Next Angel: Joli Spunky To: In Loving Memory To: Keep Their Memories Alive!
