Maggie was still a puppy when we got her.  She came from a backyard that had automatic food and water feeders.  She had been a outside dog for about 7 months.  She hadn't really been trained.  In fact, she didn't know much of anything.  After having Maggie for about 3 months, I had to take her to the vet.  The problem she was having was urinating in the kennel.  She even urinated laying down.  It seemed to be uncontrollable to her.  I am sure you can imagine how frustrating this was.  The vet ran all kinds of tests.  The vet thought it might be a muscle development.  I had her on medicine for over a month and nothing had changed.  The vet said that it had to be behavioral.  GREAT!!! Now what do I do with a dog that will not train in a kennel?  We had to change her routine.  Months go by and we start to see improvement.  She actually started to get on Misa's schedule.  When Misa wants to go outside, she barks.  Maggie picked up on that right away.  But, not at night.  Not giving up, one night Maggie actually barked in the middle of the night to wake me up.  I took her outside right away.  She was actually happy for herself.  For all I know, this time I heard her.  She might have been trying to wake me for sometime.  I gave her a treat when she came back in.  Ever since then, she will make sure I get up with her.  Maggie is still very much in the puppy stage.  She chews the TV controllers and eats my house plants.  But all-in-all I LOVE them both very much.  Even when they are doing something wrong or just laying next to me.
