2. Do not break my spirit with harsh treatment. Patience and understanding will teach me what you want me to learn more quickly.
3. Teach me how you want me to behave. I want to please you, but I need to know how.
4. Don't stay angry with me. Do not lock me up to punish me. You have your work, family, friends and other things to entertain you. I have only you, and I enjoy your company.
5. Talk to me. I may not understand the words, but I understand the tone of your voice.
6. Remember that I am a social animal. Help me to make positive associations as a young dog so that I might feel confident and well-adjusted around other dogs and people.
7. Don't forget that I need activity, mental and physical. Play games with me, take me for walks or runs.
8. Before you scold or punish me for being lazy, uncooperative, or stubborn, ask yourself if I might be sick or uncomfortable. I may not be getting enough nutrition in my diet. Or perhaps I am bored. Maybe I need medical attention, or am simply getting old. Remember that I respond better to praise and attention than to punishment and scolding.
9. Take care of me when I grow old, for you too will some day grow old and need someone to care for you!
10. Remember that I only want to love you and keep you happy. Treat me kindly, and I will be forever grateful.
