Current Breeding Stock

Chevreherd Wood Cain Rocker, DNA-CP, OFA-E, eyes clear   "Rocky" is very sweet and loyal with a reserved temperament. He works fast and hard; goes into stock more directly than his mother who covers stock really well before she goes in to do what she lives for --Bite!  Rocky's sire is Kel-Mars Desert Cain.  The three dogs in the photo at left above are Rocky, Chevreherd's Double Ruff, and Chevreherd's Bullwinkle Moose.  (Rocky at right as a pup)

Chevreherd X-Mass Lass, DNA-CP, CGC, OFA-G    "Lassie" is our resident "show dog" and has accumulated several points with AKC in addition to qualifying for her International Championship with the International All Breed Canine Association with three V-1 judgments (even with blown coat!). Judge's comments included: overall impression: fine example; correct; sound and balanced; movement good coming and going, and side gait; adequate ground-covering manner. Lassie has a near perfect temperament as well which comes in handy when she is babysitting. Lassie has produced a litter with CH Bayshore's Eggs Benedict which resulted in U-CH Chevreherd Days of Glory CGC.  Lassie is currently involved in a 4-H dog obedience/showmanship project.  Flash!  Lassie excels with her boy in training and earned several blue's and this red ribbon at this summer's 4-H shows.

GemFuzzy.jpg (71454 bytes)GemHerd1.jpg (94051 bytes)Chevreherd Precious Gem, OTDcsd, HXAs, DNA-CP "Gem" is a dynamite dog on stock that lives to please. She just keeps getting tougher, just like dear old mom, Pearl. Yet she's so deceptively delicate and cute-looking with her cow licked "stop" in her pretty white blaze between those penetrating blue eyes. Gem will finish her WTCH soon.  Gem has her own page. Check it out. In spring, 2004 Gem .  Flash!  April 2005 USASA National show, Gem wins HIT  (high in trial herding over 50 other dogs in all stock entries, the highest herding entry at an AKC aussie nationals to date)!

GaylaDalFreya.jpg (49378 bytes) Chevreherd Gayla Eventer   OFA-Ex, eyes clear  "Gayla" is my purest link to Chevreherd. She is a fast working gathering dog, but due to being soft-tempered has not gone in training. Her pups are low-heeling, cattle loving, early workers. Gayla has produced a couple of litters by Chevreherd Double Ruff. We are enjoying the early working talents of Chevreherd Quiet Riot. Gayla is now retired in 2003. We are enjoying working with her pups that we have kept, and hearing about successes of others.

NibL.jpg (12342 bytes)Chevreherd Cowhock Nibbler  "Nibbley" is a charming, sweet, and agile chunk of quarter horse Aussie type. She has been a treasure from day one. She had a nice litter by Rip in 2000 and in 2001 had  puppies by J-Bar-D Smoke Signal CD, OTDcs, STDd  "Smoke".  We enjoy working with our herding hopeful out of this cross, Banjo.  Nibbley meanwhile will be enjoying some junior handling. Nibbley also gave us a gorgeous litter out of Blu Boy Pete Dog in 2004--see puppies kept by Chevreherd below.

Chevreherd Max "Max" is out of Kayla by Muttley. This red merle boy has lots of substance, loves kids, and has a great all-around temperament. He likes to go rabbit hunting with the men in the family in his spare time. His first litter produced Chevreherd Zena, and his last litter produced my special "Missy", below.

Banjo1.jpg (107439 bytes)Chevreherd Illini Squaw (Banjo) first had a litter with Rocky which produced  some nice puppies. Among them were Zeke, who appears on our Feedback page. Face was the independent "pick of the litter" whom we hope to hear good things from in the future. Pebbles is a wonderfully sweet puppy who may have a future in agility.

Tootsie.jpg (90897 bytes)Chevreherd Toots Nelson (Tootsie) brings to Chevreherd a wonderful pedigree packaged in a typey little bundle of dynamite Aussie.  We have great hopes for the future with this beautiful dark red tri girl.  Many thanks to Betty Nelson for sending her our way, and for those breeders in earlier generations who helped to create this great little working type Aussie. Tootsie is learning a little about agility. Flash! Toots has 9 gorgeous puppies born 4/9/05 - please visit our puppies page.

Chevreherd Miss L. Any STDdsc, RDs (Missy) is very eager to take up the herding trade and is demonstrating lots of  stylish "eye", so we're hopeful that she will contribute to our future breeding program.  For now, she's happy to make lots of new friends and should be making it to a trial near you this year.  Missy was the product of Max X Gayla that I never intended to keep, but when I picked up this newborn, I knew that she had to be a throwback to old Charlie Brown (Vest's foundation dog) just as I feel that Gem is a throwback to Belle Starr. Flash: Missy earned 4 herding titles in one weekend in Sept. 2004.

Barkley2.jpg (103365 bytes)Chevreherd Bob Barker (Barkley)  is a littermate to Sheila below.  Barkley has been working hard in 4-H obedience class this year. Barkley is pictured lending a paw, playing "horse" for his "Cowgirl" in the costume class at the Fun Show.  Barkley is a solid, agile dog who brings good temperament and working instinct to his puppies.  See the son of Banjo, Drum, on our UpN'Comin' page.

Chevreherd Sweet Sheila is a half sister to Gem.  We are looking forward to making a cross to a great Aussie male  in the next year which would pull together some line breeding of Vest foundation dogs.  It should be an exciting litter!.  See puppy page for more information.  In the meantime, we are heading to the stock training arena with Sheila as well!

Lakota Capay Final Pebble is another generous gift from Betty Nelson.  Pebbles is a typical representation of her old-fashioned working dog pedigree.  Among other old names from 25 years ago, she has Iacovetta's Buck and Sorensen's Gunsmoke within her 5 generation pedigree.

Chevreherd Bawn Bowser and Chevreherd Rare Jewel are coming up in the ranks during 2005.  These "keepers" from Nibbley's exceptional litter out of Blu Boy Pete Dog are showing optimum potential to be our next winning stockdogs!

Holmberg's Allspice is a great young red tri female that Chevreherd brought home fall of 2004.  Watch for this exciting girl in the years to come!
