The new "Miefies" cage !

This is how my rats live. They are called "Miefies" because I always thought rats would smell, before I got Lara, Leonie and Loris. And a German term for "smelling" is "miefen".....

Of course they don't smell as long as you clean their cage every second or third day and use special acrylic paint (the one you can also use to paint wooden baby toys) to seal the wooden parts!

The cage size is 95x50x75 cm.
The cage is large enough for my three rats, but of course I also try to open the doors as often as possible and let them run around on the shelves and on the sofa.

I added several wooden platforms to the cage, as well as wooden houses, a hammock (made of a small towel) and the obligatory straw tube.
My ratties also got a rodent toilet on the bottom of the cage, which can easily be cleaned every day and makes it unnecessary to change the complete litter every second day!

I always add lots of shredded paper they use to build a huge nest in the house at the bottom of the cage. Unfortunately I can't use hay because they got an allergy against it =-( !
