Canine Good Citizen

The American Kennel Club (AKC) offers a Canine Good Citizen program.  The CGC program is designed to identify those dogs who show basic good manners, both at home and in the community.  The CGC test is open to all breeds and mixed breed dogs, regardless of registration with the AKC.

There are 10 tests that a dog must pass to be awarded the CGC certificate.  They are:

          • Accepting a Friendly Stranger

          • Sitting Politely for Petting

          • Appearance and Grooming

          • Out for a Walk (walk on a loose leash)

          • Walking Through a Crowd

          • Sit and Down on Command/Staying in Place

          • Coming When Called

          • Reaction to Another Dog

          • Reactions to Distractions

          • Supervised Separation
