Since we are commited to raising our birds, we feel that it is very important in choosing which homes they go to and how they will be treated in the future. We also want to assure you as a buyer that your bird will be healthy and fit in well with your family. We have placed a few policies here by which our aviary is defined.
Because of or concern to whom are birds are sold, we do not willingly sell to many petstores and we screen carefully such buyers. We like to keep in contact with our new mommy's and daddy's, even after the sale has been made. Petstores do pose a problem in this situation.
The on the other hand, because birds have different needs over cats, dogs, lizards,etc, they are often treated poorly in pet store environments, due to the lack of knowledge or training of staff. This can in turn lead to rushed "profit only" sales, sick/diseased birds, unhappy buyers and eventually pets who end up mistreated, abused, neglected or worse. For this reason we prefer not to sell to the retail trade although acceptions can be made.
We do not sell unweaned babies to novice bird keepers UNDER ANY CONDITION. Many people are captivated by the "cuteness" of baby birds, yet are not informed by petstores and some breeders to the great undertaking of handfeeding and raising a young one. We only sell to experienced feeders and will NOT sell unweaned anythings to petstores.
Our weaned birds however are available to buyers. The babies are weaned at their own pace, and we do not force them into weaning by denying them food ( starving them ). They are offered soft food ( pellets soaked in warm water ) and mixed vegetables with some fruit till they are eating on their own. We wean them on to Roudybush pellets and fruits/veggies.
Because verbal contracts are not enough these days, with the sale of every exotic pet comes our written contract. One copy goes to us and the other to you. Deposits: All birds require a non-refundable deposit several weeks before weaning time, and that cost is determined by the species. This is to ensure you that your bird is reserved and will go home with you.
A health guarantee is included in the contract stated above in which you have 7 days to visit a qualified avian vet of your choice and leave with a clean bill of health etc. You are required to pay for the initial vet check, however RMA will pay for the treatment if the bird is found to have a non-terminal illness. In case of terminal illness, you have the option of waiting for the next clutch or receiving a full refund.
After weaning we can deliver (within southern/central alberta and southern BC) for a small fee or ship to you at your expense. If you would prefer to visit in person, please call for an appointment! You are very welcome to visit our aviaries at any time.
Personal pick up must be with in 2 weeks of weaning unless you otherwise call and let us know. Birds who are not picked up within 2 weeks are no longer our responsibility and may be sold to other buyers; at which time your deposit will go towards a future clutch or bird.
Also, upon delivery, with your bird, we include a 5lb bucket of roudybush pellets, pictures of your baby (once a week from birth to 3 months), a birth certificate and a daily feeding journal.
