LoneStar BETTAS

Sanctioned by

International Betta Congress

As previously stated, Johnny M. Nail founded LoneStar Bettas in 1996 and LSB has grown to encompass most of Texas and into Oklahoma. In March of 1997, LSB held its first ever IBC sanctioned betta show in New Braunfels TX. That show was the largest held that year outside of the international convention. To have accomplished sponsoring a show in its first year is a huge accomplishment for a chapter. LSB plans to hold it's annual show in March of each and every upcoming year. We will attempt to hold our annual show in a different Texas locale each year. LSB continued its efforts in 1998, sponsoring not only its annual show and auction but a Heart of Texas Show in Waco Texas as well. Both shows were very successful. Dr. Gene Lucas judged the 2nd Annual Show and Auction, which was held in Austin. Dr. Lucas also presented two outstanding seminars on genetics. LSB sincerely appreciated Dr. Lucas' support.

When we formed our club we had two basic goals. First was to hold an IBC sanctioned show and auction. We accomplished that objective as scheduled. Secondly, we wanted to establish a breeding program within this organization. The purpose of which was to become a highly respected source of top quality bettas for anyone wishing to get involved in this hobby. LSB fully expects to have breeders producing top quality show fish for every IBC Class. As you might expect when one goal is met, another takes its place. Our new goal is to sponsor a future IBC Convention right here in Texas. Stand by to see if we can do it.

A few facts about LSB

LSB charges annual dues to its membership. The dues are currently $15.00 annually. LSB does not distinguish between a single membership and a family membership. What you get for those dues is a quarterly newsletter and the right to vote on issues presented at membership meetings. In order to vote you must be present at those membership meetings. You may however submit agenda items to the president for discussion during the meetings. Officers are elected each year during the July meeting. All meetings are held in New Braunfels, TX our founding location. We meet quarterly on a Saturday afternoon at Dittlinger Library.

Our membership is composed of a wide variety of people from all over Texas (a very large state), and as I said, we also have members in Oklahoma. This means that many of our members are not able to attend meetings. For those members not able to attend meetings, they rely heavily on the newsletter for their information. We open our membership to anyone not affiliated with another chapter.

We would like to welcome you to come and visit with us!
