Surrounding this historical house are no less than seven distinct and unique gardens. Each is on a different level and each is enclosed by walls to contain its special image. Original architectural structures- the walls, paths, steps and gates- have been carefully retained. The emphasis in planning the gardens has been to focus on the native Carolina species and on plant varieties that were available in the 18th century. Classic wooden benches are placed throughout the garden for rest and contemplation.
