I think it is safe to say that a good time was had by all. I know I had fun. I may be a little biased, but that was the most fun I've had at a wedding reception. We were dancing and eating most of the night.
I accomplished most of my objectives for this reception. Many brides have told me that they never taste the food at their own reception. I was NOT having that. I ate my fill of the hors d'oeuvres and then I mingled around the cocktail party room and greeted folks. (And by this time my shoes were already kicked off. I only put them back on for the two official dances.)
When we were seated in the ballroom, the remainder of the reception had just the feel I was hoping for. I've been to a lot of weddings where you sit and wonder how long it is before you can dance. I wanted lots of dancing and lots of mingling. So Johnie and I had our first dance right after we were announced. Then, during the salad course, my father and I had our first dance. After that, the DJ, as if reading my thoughts, played the "Electric Slide." That let everyone know it was time to dance! We danced in between courses and there was barely a lull on the dance floor most of the night.
Some of the hightlights of the reception:
Johnie and my first dance to Stevie Wonder's "Ribbon in the Sky."
My dance with my father...I think our cha-cha/jazzy version of "Summertime" (from Porgy and Bess) surprised a few folks.
Johnie's fraternity brothers serenading us with their fraternity song.
My father, using his "dime" (you had to hear him to get the full effect of this) to get a couple of dedication songs in. :-) The first being a dance for him and his "significant other," my mother. Daddy laid down the gaunlet to the rest of the men in the room to dance this dance with their "significant other" if they wished to go home with said "significant other." The dance floor was PACKED after that not so gentle hint. :-)
Daddy also had the DJ play a cover of the the song "Nadine" for me and Johnie.
The food was great, the cake delicious and we all had a blast. Like the ceremony, it all went by too too fast.
At the end, guests went home with mini champagne bottles labeled especially for the reception and strawberry fortune cookies with custom fortunes. |
