Mesa Verde National Park in southwestern Colorado contains preserved cave dwellings from the Anasazi tribe dating from around 1200 A.D.
We got there late at night and woke the next morning to find wild turkeys all over the campground.

The hollow spot under the overhang contains a deserted city.
Our first close-up sight was unbelievable -- it looks like a tiny model. Hundreds of people lived in this city. They scaled the cliff walls to climb up to the mesa where their farms were.

On the right, you can see people on the tour.

We got a close-up look when we took the tour.
Next stop: Arches National Park
