The Army Star
1996
  25 x 34 inch cradle quilt.

Pieced and quilted on a  1938 Kayser treadle sewing machine.   The stars were paper pieced first, then incorporated into the larger design.  This quilt was made for the daughter of an Army Colonel.  I chose both a patriotic pattern and fabrics to commemorate her July birth.

Florida Star
1994
Machine pieced and quilted

I made this blue and yellow quilt to celebrate my nephew Nicholas' birth.  I copied this block from an antique quilt.  Only later did I find out that it is the Florida block.  How appropriate as he was born in Florida!  This quilt really rekindled my interest in quilting.

The other quilt, a scrappy broken dishes, was made for me by my paternal grandmother, Marion.  There is a picture of her with her quilting group on my quilting snapshots page.

Musical Cats
1999 Guild Challenge, UFO

My cats are always talking to me in a sing-song.  This guild challenge used a block from Traditional Quiltmaker called "Mom's Unwanted Block"  My color was teal.  Because I wanted to use a large character print, I redesigned the block into a two block pattern (see a closeup) that allowed me to use larger teal squares, instead of triangles.  The black and white fabrics have musical notes, etc. and the polka-dot pink makes me think of a cat's rough tongue!
