ALOHA… The East Coast Surf club was set up in the Harcourt Hotel on Wednesday the 18th of March 98, and a good sixty people turned up for the initial meeting.
We wanna make a focus for surfers and spongers in and around Dublin to meet other like-minded people and have the opportunity to compete, and to introduce beginners to this wonderful friendly sport. We're gonna have regular wild social nights (see our First Summer Social Night) and arranged trips en masse down the country and to contests, as well as surfs up here in our dirty old town as much as we can. There will be coaching for beginners (hopefully) and every member is covered by third party insurance to the value of £2 million. Yeah, it's pretty cool 'cos if you're a member, you get stuff cheaper, and if you're somewhere like Rossnowlagh, the club there will let you use their premises and baords and stuff for free.
We really wanna get everyone involved - there isn't a person under 40 who doesn't think surfing's cool, and we know you wanna give it a go. Please give us a bell and come along, even if you've no experience. This is the friendliest sport on earth, and don't worry about boards and wetsuits if you don't have 'em - we can lend them to you. EVERYONE CAN DO IT. Remember,"the best surfer is the one who's having the most fun."
It's £15 for the year - £10 for grommets 15 years and under. Go on, you know its worth it - that would hardly buy a round these days. HEY, loads of you haven't paid up yet, please do as soon as you can.
It is long overdue - there was an East Coast Surf Club some years ago, but it was very small and collapsed. This one will last longer for sure, there is great demand in the Dublin area. And the thing is, the surf is surprisingly good here on the east coast, despite the fact that it's the most radioactive sea on earth! I'll probably come out some day soon with an extra dick or something!!

News A lot's happening for the club - we've had a great first few months and the autumn's gonna rock with a major outing to Achill in October and also the Irish Intercounties! We're gonna send teams, anyone at all, any standard, can be on a team - it's gonna be great craic.

Comittee
The chairman is the "father of Irish surfing", Kevin Cavey (see Irish History). He brought the first board into this isle, and has done the world championships in the sixties. It was Kevin who was the driving force behind the club. He had long thought about one but was kickstarted into action by a chance meeting with old surf bandit Sam McCrum in an petrol station last summer.
The honourary president is the veteran Johnny Lee, and with his hands on the purse strings is Rob Genest, ably assisted by Oisin McManus. I reckon Ciaran Clancy has the toughest job of all - secretary. Thanks a lot Ciaran, you're doing a sterling job, he's also the boss of the Celtic surf label "Mananan", lord of the sea. Looks like he's picked the right time with the Irish surf scene set to explode…
Our safety and all-round vid/magazine bloke is Geoff Will. He's heavily into surf lifesaving (check it out in Killiney) and he's travelled the world, like Oz and Bali. Then we've got our international judge Neil Britton, part of the whole Britton dynasty, as social officer. He's just back from SA with the European team - did you catch them on Eurosport?
In charge of sponsorship - what a dud job! - is Zac Johnson (the grom) and Paul Cavey with loadsa help from the afformentioned Sam McCrum. Props to Martin Corr (just back from an epic Portugese road trip - it's so cheap!) for designing the logos, shirts, letterheads, notices etc., he's a student graphic designer and does a great job.
