ACT III: VERONA, ITALY
- SCENE i: Center of Verona, a public place on Monday afternoon.
It is a hot day in Verona, and Mercutio and Benvolio are talking, then Tybalt arrives asking for Romeo. Then Romeo comes and says that he loves the Capulet name, the others not knowning what has happen are shocked by his response. Mercutio is angry about Romeo, thinking if Romeo does not want to fight Tybalt I will. First Mercutio and Tybalt just fool around, then suddenly Tybalt underneath Romeo's arms strikes Mercutio dead. Tybalt runs away and Romeo comes after him, then they both fight, and finally it ends when Romeo strikes Tybalt dead. The Prince and both, Capulet and Montague's families arrive and start to argue who killed first and got killed last. The Prince resolves this sharade by banishing Romeo from Verona, and if he comes back he will be killed!
- SCENE ii: Capulet's orchard, late-afternoon of Monday.
Juliet is informed by her Nurse about Tybalt's death, adn Romeo's banishment and she is very sad and shocked and cries a lot. The Capulets are weeping over Tybalt, while the Montagues are weeping over Romeo.
- SCENE iii: Friar Lauerence's cell on Monday late-afternoon.
The Friar talks to about Romeo his banishment, and Romeo wishes that he would be dead. Then the Nurse enters informing Romeo that Juliet is convinced that her love has not performed a sin, and he did it only because Tybalt was after him. Then Romeo attempts to kill himself but the Nurse stops him in time! Now Friar becames angry about Romeo attitude towards all of this. Friar Lauerence gives him three reasons worthy enough for his happiness: 1)Juliet is happy and does not think Romeo as a murder 2)Tybalt was to kill Romeo, but Romeo killed him 3)Instead of being beheaded because of his murder he received only banishment. Friar also has a plan he tells them about, first Romeo should spend the night with Juliet then leave for Mantua at early the next morning and spend time there until all is patched up in Verona by the Frair and the Nurse, and then he can come back and have a huge wedding ceremony with his family and Juliet.
- SCENE iv: A room in Capulet's house at Monday midnight.
Paris is asking for the Juliet's hand now, and Lord Capulet who wanted Juliet to be married two years from now, decides that Juliet will be married to Paris three days from today. He does that so he can bring joy and happiness to this family after the sorrowful dead of Tybalt.
- SCENE v: Capulet's orchard on early Tuesday morning.
Romeo has been with his love for the night, and now leaves, telling Juliet that he will be back. Lady Capulet comes in and tells Juliet that she will be marring Paris in three days, and she is shocked by hearing this. Lord Capulet and Juliet start to argue and Juliet still refuses to marry. Even her trustful Nurse refuses to back her up, and so Juliet is left alone and so she goes to Friar Lauerence for guidance.
