Living within the sports capital of a
sport oriented Australia, you have to be involved in something
(even if it's sitting in front of the TV watching footy with a beer). As for me, I've known from the moment I tried
dashing to the beach during winter while living in Geelong that I
was a water child. And so this great love for the water
manifested to a keen interest in all sorts of water sports, even
if it's frozen water.
So far I've bodyboarded since 9 years of age, surfed until my teen years, had swimming lessons from a toddler to Primary School, began rollerskating at 3 years of age, ice-skated, got in to in-line skating at 13, tried sailing and windsurfing with the Girl Guides, canoeing, snorkelling, abseiling, indoor rock climbing, horse riding, skiing, skiboarding and tried snowboarding. I'm determined to one day glide through a
long tube with the sun beams peering through and to carve through snow (with a nice amount of pow pow) down slopes, without falling once. Yeah I do have a "Tom Boy" nature and also an inner need for adrenaline thrills (legally of course, hehe). Now I just need to find people with a similar interest, and of course the time and $ to do the things I've yearned for so long.
My aim is to increase energy levels, tone up and better my sense of wellbeing by going to the gym 3/4 times a week, combined with daily walks, weekly skating/cycling and monthly hikes. I must admit I procrastinate at times and have not kept this up on a regular basis. It's always good to have people to do things with and encourage each other!
Basketball, cricket, golf, Aussie rules football, rugby, soccer, netball, tennis, surfing, snowboarding, skiing, and F1 racing are just a few sports that Aussies enjoy. We also love extreme sports, eco challenges, ironmen/women competitions... basically, whatever your sporting interests are, you will find that we have it here. Within my state of Victoria, we host many international events, such as the: Australian Tennis Open, Australian Grand Prix, Bells Beach Rip Curl Pro surfing carnival, Phillip Island motorcycling championships etc. On sunny days the bay is filled with
sailboats, yachts and jet skiiers, while along the St. Kilda foreshore many in-line skaters flock. The ovals are usually crammed with shouting footbal or cricket supporters when the season's in session. And if you live in NSW or QLD, rugby would have the same impact.
You can always expect the patriotic supporters letting off full
steam if their team isn't going so good.
Stopping on the St Kilda Pier b4 skating again.
My personal favourite
teams are: Essendon/Bombers (AFL: Australian Football League) and Melbourne Knights (ASL: Australian Soccer League).
