Irish Paddling Ireland is a funny old place to paddle in: Despite it's wet reputation, ("A grand soft day sir") it often seems to rain only just enough to make the craggs unclimbable and hill walking (if you're kinda kinky and into that perverse "pastime") an endless slogg through clouds. The rivers, it seems, never seem to rise in proportion with the amount of precipitation. Ho Hum... Well OK, so it's not the Alps or Nepal, but if you are thinking of doing some paddling in Ireland here's some of the lowdown that may just help you make the most of your trip. Maybe you're an ERASMUS student trying to figure out how to spend all that free time during term... Maybe you're a goatboater looking to do some rivers on the way to the West Coast Whatever, read on.... Now before you do go on, you should realise that I'm giving you my opinions here...This is like a quick tour to pique your interest. You should by no means take what I'm saying on blind faith. Check out the rivers yourselves, use your own judgement. Paddling and drinking are accepted risk sports. Conditions change blah, blah, blah....If you are interested in getting further info on anthing on the site, drop me a line. Also, when you get here, the Bible is Seamus McGearailt's book - "Irish Whitewater - a guide to Irish white water rivers and surf". In addition to accurate descriptions, water level guides and great photo's, it's got directions as well. What more could a paddler ask for!!! You can click on the map below to go to a specific area of the of the country or follow the links below it. Hey, ya takes ya choices, huh?
