ADVANCED JUMPING

TRICKS

PINCHING YOUR SEAT>>>> Knowing how to pinch your seat is a must for any advanced jumper. When learning to pinch your seat it is very very helpful to use knee pads, the bigger the easier it will be to pinch your seat. Also you should have your seat positioned so you can pinch it easy, the bigger the seat the easier it is to pinch. Your seat should be kind of high and at about an 80 degree angle with your seat post, this varies from bike to bike, just experiment and find what works best for you. When approaching the jump give yourself some time to set up. When you hit the jump lean back and pull up don't lean forward and pull up. When you come off the lip be ready to pinch your seat. You don't have to pinch the seat very hard but you want to lean back on the seat  and your knees should lock up with the seat. The most important thing is leaning back, your head should not be very far over your handle bars and your ass should be a ways behind the seat. Experiment. Look at some of the pictures on this page and notice how they are pinching their seat.

One Handed x-up>>>> One handed x-up are pretty easy to learn once you got the art of seat pinching down. Go off of the jump and be in seat pinching position then take off your hand and turn the handle bars towards you then away from you turning your bars 180 degrees. The first couple times you try them your arm might get stiff and the bars won't turn this happens because you are gripping the bars too hard. Before turning your bars make sure your grip is loose you might lose control of the bike doing this if you are not pinching your seat.

No footed x-up>>>> No footed x-ups are a really neat looking trick. Before attempting a no footed x-up you should have no footers, x-ups and one footed x-ups down good. When you attempt one make sure you turn the bars fast if you don't your bike will go out of control. You can try one onto the deck of a jump your first couple trys. When you go to do one first take off your feet then do the x-up. For your first couple trys don't do big ass no footers and never lean far forward.

Suicide>>>>Suicides are not that hard but getting used to pinching your seat is. Suicides are a stretched no hander. Get used to the seat pinching stuff explained at the top of the page is a must. Once you are used to pinching your seat start taking your fingers off of the handlebars little by little your bike should be under control if you pinching the seat correctly. If you feel your bike is under complete control take your hands off more and more and eventually stretch them behind you. And to do a dope suicide lean your chest back as you extend your arms. It will look like you are standing straight up instead of leaned forward.

Barspin>>>>Barspins are one of the neatest and hardest tricks in freestyle. You can spin the bars two ways: throwing them and then catching them or guide the bars around with one hand busdriver style. Before trying them off of any jump practice them on the ground for a while so you get used to throwing and catching them also it would help a lot if you could do suicides and one handed x-ups but you need to be able to do the stuff about pinching your seat at the top of the page. Next find a jump with some kind of deck and practice barspins off the lip and onto the deck if you feel comfortable go faster and faster working your way up to clearing the jump.

360>>>>360's are a very impressive trick that looks really cool. Before you try 360's off of a jump you want to be used to turning the bike. You should practice 180's or 360's on the ground and once you feel comfortable with turning then try it off a jump. You start out doing them onto the deck of a jump. when going off of the jump you should not turn your front wheel until it gets off of the lip. Turn your wheel and your whole body and keep turning until you spot the landing once you do bring your body and bike around so you are ready for a straight landing.

Truckdriver>>>>A truckdriver is a 360 with a barspin. Before you attempt a truckdriver be very comfortable with 360's and barspins. The first thing to practice when learning a truckdriver is pinching your seat while you are doing a 360. Once you are comfortable with that try pinching your seat and taking your hands off a little and if that feels comfortable you should be able to try a truckdriver.

Superman>>>>If you can do no footers with ease supermans won't be too hard for you. A superman is where you extend your legs back past your pedals the further back you stretch them the better it looks. To do a superman you take your feet off and kick them back and at the same time push your bike forward. First thing to do is find a jump with a deck on it. Practice small supermans onto the deck. Start off by just taking your feet off and pushing the bike forward then get them as big as you can. Once you feel comfortable work your way up to clearing the jump doing one then just work on the extension.

No footed can can>>>> A no footed can can is like a can can but instead take both feet off of the pedals. Before attempting a no footed can can be very comfortable with no footers and can cans. When learning no footed can cans start off by just lifting your feet off of the pedals and bring them up and try to get them on the same side of the bike. Once you can get them on the same side work on extending them out. For your first attempts try doing them onto the deck of a jump.

Rocket>>>>A rocket is when you put both of your feet onto your back pegs. If you are very comfortable with no footers rockets should be very easy for you to learn. First try one onto the deck of a jump if it feels comfortable just clear the jump and do one.

Nothing>>>>A nothing is when you take both arms and feet off of the pedals. Before trying a nothing be very comfortable with doing no footers and no handers and no footer one handers. When trying a nothing make sure you take you hands off before your bike gets to its highest point,( before you begin to drop), also take your feet off before your hands and have the front end of your bike higher then the back end. You want to start off by taking your feet off a little bit and barley take your hands off. Then just gradually take your limbs off more and more until you can get them fully extended.

Tailwhip>>>>Tailwhips are a very impressive trick and are also pretty difficult. A tail whip is when you whip your whole frame around 360 degrees while you stay straight forward. Before thinking about trying tailwhips you should be extremely comfortable with taking your feet off. When learning tailwhips wear a lot of safety gear because you will crash alot it would also do you some good to wear a nut cup. First find a jump with a deck that you can practice on, the bigger the deck the better. First decide what way you want to whip you bike. If you whip to the right take your right foot off and bring it up by the top tube and at the same time kick to the right with your left foot. The whole time try to face strait and not turn if you do you will end up doing a 180 tailwhip. When kick the bike around move the handle bars in a circular motion to help whip the bike around. Just practice that onto the deck and you will get used to it.

Backflip>>>>Backflips are a spooky trick but are extremely neat. Before trying a backflip on a jump practice it into the water, a foam pit or snow. When going for a backflip lean as far back as you can but do not pull up much on the jump. You will probably freak out when you are upside down the first couple trys but you'll get used to it. When you got backflips mastered in water try on off of a good sized jump. Just do not freak out when you are upside down or you will be screwed.

THE BEST WAY TO LEARN JUMPING TRICKS IS TO FIRST TRY THE TRICKS INTO: WATER (LAKE JUMPING IS ONE OF THE FUNNEST THINGS IN THE WORLD) , SNOW OR A FOAM PIT.
