Dianne Feinstein, U. S. Senator
1700 Montgomery St.,
Ste. 305
San Francisco, CA 94111

Dear Senator Feinstein,

We the students of Chabot College of Hayward recently formed an environmental club called Club Earth. Our mission is to raise environmental awareness on our campus and in our community. The Headwaters agreement between state and federal negotiators and Pacific Lumber Company was recently brought to our attention by a Club Earth member by way of an article in the Daily Review in the September 29th issue. We are writing to express our concern over the failure to reach a solid agreement that would ensure the safe-keeping of the Headwaters Forest. This tenuous deal would mean:

1. The loss of a part of our National Heritage
(These redwood forests have existed for over 2000 years)
2. The loss of revenue for state and local bodies
(Tourism over a long period of time is more economically sound
than the mass slaughter of trees for lumber)
3. The loss of topsoil due to erosion
(This causes water pollution, which harms the organisms indigenous to the habitat)

These are only few of the losses that are reflected by this unfair agreement. We are enclosing a petition signed by Chabot College students, staff, and faculty in support of preserving the old growth forests. We ask that you support our efforts and help preserve the Headwaters Forest for this and future generations.

Sincerely yours,

Please feel free to make any appropriate changes you like. We ask that you include your name and address at the bottom of the e-mail since this somehow causes politicians to get things done faster (just a hunch but I think it has something to do with votes).
Please send your e-mail to Senator Dianne Feinstein now.
