Sailing the not so wide blue ocean

Page last updated on 8 November 1998
Sailing! I love sailing, but unfortunately I haven't made the opportunity to go sailing for a while now.
In charge of the boat, sailing on the IJselmeer in Nederland.

Moored three deep along the wharf in a typical Dutch village harbour. My aunt Rita and cousin Ilse are on deck with me.
I've sailed around the wonderful harbour here in Auckland. The Hauraki gulf is a good days sailing long, with lots of islands and little harbours to shelter in. Stooging around the islands close to Auckland is a pleasant day trip.

I also went sailing with my aunt and uncle on the IJselmeer in Nederland. We stopped at many picturesque little villages along the shores and indulged ourselves with fresh smoked eel and salted herring.

Going out through the lock in the dijk onto the "open ocean" was great fun and a novel experience for me. The best thing of all is that I never seem to get seasick, no matter how rough the weather is.
