The members of our company come from all over our local area. The High School's catchment area includes six or seven primary schools from Dunipace, Denny, Banknock and Bonnybridge - yes, it's that Bonnybridge. Here's a little bit about each place, as well as some further comments about the other areas of Central Scotland where we live.
DENNY
Denny is quite a large town. As well as the High School, there are three Primary Schools - Nethermains, Denny and Head of Muir. Denny beacem really established on the map during the Industrial Revolution, thanks to the River Carron. The River allowed many Paper Mills to be set up, and today there is still one surviving.
DUNIPACE
Dunipace has been established for a bit longer than Denny. It's first mention is by the Romans - they signed a treaty here! There are also local associations with William Wallace - his Uncle led a Mission Station on the site of Dunipace North Church - and Robert the Bruce. Nowadays, Dunipace is a mainly residential village.
BONNYBRIDGE
Bonnybridge also has a history of Industrialization, but was more famous for its foundries. Today, it is most famous for being the UFO capital of Scotland! There is also a lot of Roman history associated with Bonnybridge - the Antonine Wall (left) runs through it, and one of the best preserved forts - Rough Castle - lies nearby.
BANKNOCK
Banknock is situated near the main motorway to Glasgow and, as such, enjoys being a popular area for commuters to stay.
STIRLING
FALKIRK
Falkirk is the main town for our area, where most of the shops are. It also has strong historical connections with Wallace (the Battle of Falkirk, 1294). There are also connections with Bonnie Prince Charlie, who won the Second Battle of Falkirk (1745) here. There are many beautiful historical buildings in Falkirk, Callender House (left) being only one of them. Check out more at Falkirk Today
After all that, I thought I'd provide some Scottish information for all those interested. One of the best sites is Gateway To Scotland which has lots of pictures, a potted history and lots more!
