NEXT STEPS FOR THE AHBP
An Interim Committee has been set up to establish the AHBP until a new coordinating committee can be elected. (This interim committee consists of Michael Lambert (Chairman); Ivan Ineich (Deputy Chairman); Lynn Raw (General Secretary); Neil Burgess (Mapping Coordinator); Preston Hardison (Information Coordinator) and Craig Hassapakis (Public Relations Coordinator). Martin Kundrat assists Craig Hassapakis.) The next steps will be to prepare initiatives to secure funding for establishment costs, project proposals and project linking.
FIRST LINK FOR AHBP
BIODIVERSITY MAPPING OF SUB-SAHARAN HERPETOFAUNA
Neil Burgess (Denmark) is coordinating a project to map the biodiversity of Sub-Saharan Africa.
The AHBP can assist with degree cell localities of reptiles and amphibians. Details have been published in African Herp News 23 (August, 1995), pages 69 and 70. Neil would welcome any contributions of localities, or other information which could assist this project.
LIST-SERVER FOR AHBP
A list-server to promote communication between collaborators in the AHBP was set up through the kind assistance of Lesley McGuffog and Duncan Bennett at the World Conservation Monitoring Centre. The list server was called AFRIHERP-L but is no longer functioning. The World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC) in Cambridge, United Kingdom is thanked for making this facility available. The WCMC would be also be an ideal centre in which to deposit any data accumulated by this programme as well as a source for much of the data needed to achieve our goals.
