Becoming a Christian is possibly one of the simplest but most important thing you can do in your life. I will out line the steps/facts (if you will) to becoming a Christian. I will give you scriptures AKA quotes from the Holy Bible. I will quote from two translations of the Holy Bible. The first translation is from the King James Version (KJV) followed by the New International Version (NIV). The NIV is a translation of the Holy Bible in a little more Modern English, enough said.
Oh one thing before we get started, if you like, you can skip right to the sample prayer by clicking the down arrow.
The First thing you need to know is that no one is 'GOOD' enough for God's Heaven. God's word says in Romans 3:10 (third chapter tenth verse)
"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: " (KJV)
"As it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one;" (NIV)
This means it does not matter how 'good' a person you are. Being 'good' will not get you into God's Heaven.
Next you need to know that everyone has sinned. That is every one has come short, not measured up to Gods standard. Everyone has messed up. The Bible says in Romans 3:23
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (KJV)
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," (NIV)
You may be wondering: If no one is righteous enough and every one has sinned, what can I do to earn salvation (entry into God's Heaven, AKA: Eternal Life)? The answer is, you can't earn your way into Heaven!
If I can't earn my way into heaven then how can I be saved? You must trust in Jesus alone. The Bible says in Romans 5:6-8
"6
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (KJV)"6
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (NIV)Salvation (Entry into God's Heaven) is not something you or I can do. Salvation is possible because of what Jesus Christ did! Salvation is a gift from God and must be accepted as a gift. There is nothing you can do or have done that can qualify or earn the right for the gift of salvation. Salvation (becoming a Christian) is a free gift to you (and me) from God. Romans 6:23 says:
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (KJV)
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. "(NIV)
Great, how can I be sure I am saved? The Bible says in Romans 8:1:
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." (KJV)
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus," (NIV)
What this means is that even though you (and I) have sinned in the past all that is now declared null and void, when we accept Jesus as Lord and savior. This is one of the privileges enjoyed by the followers of Christ. We will talk about this point in more detail later.
Ok, I have been going on for a bit and you may be wondering what should you do. Well, the Bible says in Romans 10:9,10:
"9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (KJV)
"9
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." (NIV)According to the word of God you must believe that Jesus is Lord, and that God has raised him from the dead, and confess with your mouth your belief. That's it!
One final note here is a promise from God as found in Romans 10:13:
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. "(KJV)
"for, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' " (NIV)
Here is a prayer you can pray to be saved: "Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I have done wrong, that I have sinned. I repent of (I am sorry for) my sins. I believe you, died for me, and that God raised you from the dead. I invite you into my life, as my Lord and Savior. Amen."
Did you recite and believe the above prayer? (
YES or NO)
