Computer and Internet Literacy: Core Competency Level 3

Level 1    Level 2    Level 3

This is the next higher level of computer and Internet literacy demonstrating the ability to use sophisticated applications.

  • Know how to use real-time communications such as chat, audio, and video. To communicate in real-time with students and peers is an excellent way to extend education outside the classroom and to develop a sophisticated method of communications.
  • Know how to use a database. Using databases to maintain student records eliminates errors, saves time, and provides a permanent record of the course statistics.
  • Know how to use other software applications. Productivity applications, such as Microsoft Project, FrontPage, Publisher, and others, empower faculty to be more creative and often more productive in support of course development.
  • Know how to use advanced search techniques. Using advanced search techniques will provide focused results.

Explore the different core levels and compare individual skills and abilities to those of other professionals. For more information on computer literacy, visit the UMUC Center for Teaching, Learning and Assessment or contact the TRAC Office.
