Hard Disk

TIP: Prior to DOS 6.0, the command to check and repair the hard disk was:
chkdsk /f
This command is still available, but the new
Scandisk
command test more areas and is best to use.

When a system locks up or crashes, the hard disk is susceptible to allocation errors. Incorrect allocation normally is not a major problem, but if enough of errors exist on your hard disk, you may experience system instability, and your hard disk is wasting space.

If your system ever crashes or locks, when you restart, you should run scandisk or chkdsk /f to repair any allocation errors.
