Windows Memory

Besides the physical RAM in your computer, Windows has the ability to use a portion of your Hard Disk Drive as virtual memory.

We suggest setting the virtual memory at between 2.5 to 3.5 times the amount of actual RAM in your system.

To check the settings:

1. Right-click on the 'My Computer' icon.
2. Click on 'Properties'.
   A window will appear with four tabs along the top.
3. Click on the 'Performance' tab.
4. Click on the 'Virtual Memory...' button.

To change the settings:

1. Click the button to 'Let me specify...yaddah,yaddah'.
2. Set both Minimum and Maximum to the same amount (2.5 to 3.5 times your RAM)
   [If you have 16meg of RAM, set these for 40 to 56 meg of disk space.]
3. Make sure the Hard Disk selected is your fastest (usually the largest) system drive.
4. Click on 'OK'.

No matter the amount of physical memory you have, Windows will work better with access to some virtual memory.
