This is the receiver's front end. To the left is the heater switch, which functions as an on-off switch. The anode voltage is on all the time, but as long as the heater is not on, no current flows and the batteries are not drained. Beside the switch there is a red antenna jack and a black ground jack. The left knob is for tuning, whereas the right one adjusts regeneration. A pair of high-impedance (2000 ohms) headphones is be connected to the remaining two jacks for listening.

I use a 7-meter long wire antenna. The reception is not spectacular, but surprisingly good anyhow. Grounding is very important to ensure good reception.
