Botta's Serotine

 

 

Eptesicus bottae :

     Smaller than E.serotinus with the forearm less than 47 mm. The dorsal fur colour is pale brown lighter than E.serotinus, but the membranes, the ears and the facial profile are dark (blackish).

     Range of species is Arabia, Egypt, Palestine. Turkey, Iraq. western Iran, the Caucasus. Turkistan, east to Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

      it is found in the arid regions in the south Jordan including Wadi Araba, and the southern desert. records are available from "Lawrence's pool" near Rum (Bates and Harrison,1989 and the RSCN Fauna team 1999) and in  Disi (Wadi Rum) (Qumsiyeh et al.,1992).

     It is named after Botta who collected the first specimens from Yemen.
