Pygmy pipistrelle, Egyptian Desert Pipistrelle

Pipistrellus ariel:

     This is a small pipistrelle with the forearm between 28 and 31 mm in length.

     It is distinguished from P.savii and P.kuhlii by its smaller size. From. P.kuhlii, P.ariel it distinguished by the long outer or second upper incisor which reach almost two-thirds the length of the inner upper incisor.

     Range of species is Egypt, Sudan, Jordan and Palestine. It is uncommon in Jordan and a possible specimen is known from Disi in Wadi Rum. (Qumsiyaeh et al.,1992)
