Pipistrellus rueppellii :
This bat is distinguished from all other pipistrelles in the region by having a pure white fur underneath, it is a robust bat similar in size to P.kuhlli. Range of the species is Africa south to the Sahara, Algeria and Egypt to Iraq. Little is known a bout its biology, it is suggested from the white fur colour underneath that this species foraging on or close to the ground other species were coughed near water (Qumsiyeh et al ., 1998). The species named after the 19th century mammalogist Rüppell who collected and described many species of mammals including bats around the turn of 19th century. No records found in Jordan but it is reported from several localities in Palestine near the Dead sea and in Wadi Araba and thus certainly found in the same habitats in Jordan (Qumsiyeh et al ., 1998). |
