Christian Music
I like all kinds of music. I like a little bit of everything. Right now I am mainly
into Christian rock & underground/independent. "What is so good about Christian music?" you ask. Well, check out these links! I think that if you give
the music a chance (like I did), you will find not only are the lyrics positive,
but the quality of the music is just as good and, in most
cases, better than the secular music that is out there
today. I use this page as my collection to everything interesting I can find about Christian music. I hope you can find it useful. ALSO check out the concert
links (local to my area) and places to find
music below and some other Christian
links that I have found that are worth seeing.
Your life could be changed forever!!!
The following two quotes from Jyro Xhan pretty much sums up how I feel about Christian music:
"God is a whole lot bigger than the Christian music industry. If you can't find anything in Christian music that you like, that doesn't mean that God doesn't have room for you in His arms."
--- Jyro Xhan
"I hope that years from now, you don't even remember who the bands were that played. I hope you just remember that you went somewhere where there were other Christians, and that you all praised God together."
--- Jyro Xhan at Mortal's last concert

Christian Music Sources
- CCM Magazine: Contemporary Christian Music Magazine. It is one of the best places to keep up-to-date on the latest information in the Christian music industry.
- Way FM: Christian Radio Station out of Nashville, Tennessee. I think that a good Christian radio station is a very good (and simple) way to spread the gospel. Also, they used to have a web station with the harder side of WAY-FM at The X-Station.com.
- The FIX: local Christian radio
station
Christian Music Artists (* can be found secularly -- which is a good thing!)
- Fleming & John: (*) Awesome rock band!!! This band started out in the Christian market. They did so well that they re-released their CD into the general market. I think the CD did pretty good. Anyway, I like them.
- Third Day: Awesome southern-rock style band. I love the lead singer's voice. It sounds a lot like a mix between Hootie (Hootie and the Blowfish) and Eddie Vetter (Pearl Jam). They have some really great praise and worship lyrics and music that will keep you jumpin'.
- Jars of Clay: (*) Talk about great sound and lyrics, try them out! They have great rhythm guitar, and I like how they mix in a little strings sometimes.
- Newsboys: (*) Awesome rock band. This band was one of the bands that got me into the Christian music scene.
- Audio Adrenaline: Awesome rock-pop band with great lyrics. Another one of the first Christian bands that I heard (way back in high school).
- Sixpence None the Richer: (*) A really great mellow-rock band. I love the singers voice. It blends well with their style. This is something to listen to when you are not in the mood for "happy music". Their lyrics used to be a bit controversial (sort-of) because they talked about confusion, doubt, and sadness. Some people thought that Christian music should be happy and uplifting. I think that there is nothing wrong with Christian bands having "depressing" lyrics. I think that Sixpence is trying to show that the Christian lifestyle is not always easy.
- Chevelle: This group of guys can play some hard alternative music. And the lyrics have depth, too.
- Vigilantes of Love: (*) For a perfect example of southern rock/folk, VOL has the most insightful lyrics that I have ever heard. These guys just ROCK!!! They are one if my all-time favorites.
- Viva Voce: They are from my hometown, and led by a married couple, Anita and Kevin. They are AMAZING!!! Definitely a must have for your collection.
- All Star United: Just plain pop rock. I love the words to their songs. I heard two of their songs on the radio, and I took a risk and bought the CD. I pleasantly found that the rest of the songs were good, too. I had a chance to see them in concert at the Crush Warehouse in Birmingham, AL, but we got there late and missed them playing. Hopefully, I will have another chance to see them.
- dc Talk: (*) Music for the real 'Jesus Freaks!' Their CD's have some very powerful lyrics.
- Dakoda Motor Company: (*) Awesome surf-style rock band. This is another one of the Christian bands that I started out listening to. I really liked their original lead singer's voice (Davia). They have since broken up
- Caprill: Awesome female singer with a great voice and very unique sound. I have only heard one song by her on the radio, "Midnight Rain".
- Skillet: This group was the first group that my roommate (along with myself and others) got to put on a concert at Mississippi State. The concert was AWESOME!!! And the amazing thing is that we broke even!
- Rebecca St. James: (*) What a great voice! I also love her accent. Her song titled "God" is one of my favorites.
- Villanelle: Talk about great piano. This is the place! They also have a large variety. This band broke up (I don't really know why) and some of the members formed another band called Small Town Poets .
- Michael W. Smith: (*) One of the original Contemporary Christian singers. He is the first Christian singer that I heard. The song "Friends (Are Friends Forever)" was the first song of his that I heard.
- Plumb: This band is a pretty good rock band. They remind me of Fleming & John.
- Miss Angie: If you are in the mood for some electronic dance, you are at the right place.
- HAM: A cool band made up of people that I know. They are now broken up.
- Unleavened: An awesome band made up of some of my good friends from Florence, AL. They rock! They have made a demo tape and a CD that were both very good. They played several times at The Refuge in Birmingham, AL and are one of the favorite bands that play there. Also, I used to maintain their website.

Christian independent/Underground Artists
- Fold Zandura: I have seen these guys in concert several times. They are an EXCELLENT futuristic pop band. (See also BEC) They were formerly known as MORTAL, and they were one of the most versatile techno-rock bands ever!!!
- (stavesacre): Awesome band with a sound all their own. Another of my all-time favorite bands. A must-see in concert. (Started out on Tooth & Nail)
- Scaterd Few: Considered by most to be the first real Christian "punk" band, and certainly one of the most groundbreaking Christian bands ever, Scaterd Few can certainly be considered pioneers. Some videos and MP3s can be found here. Lead singer Allan Aguirre is also in Spy Glass Blue and also does a podcast of his family. His family also appeared in an episode of Wife Swap on ABC. His kids have a band called Drama Dust.
- Plankeye: Groovy power pop. These guys ROCK in concert. You just can't stand still. They are now broken up. (See also BEC)
- The Supertones: The very first 'ska' band that I ever heard. When I heard it, I couldn't believe that some one hadn't thought to put a horn section and saxes in a rock band before. (See also BEC)
- Damien Jurado: I really love the emotion of his music. I have heard him called "then master of the sad break-up song".
- Driver Eight: Just great music. Sound similar to the Smashing Pumpkins. Great for driving or just chillin'. They are now broken up.
- Michael Knott: This guy is way before his time. He truly has God given talent. Awesome lyrics, awesome music. In-your-face rock with a message.
- Galactic Cowboys: Artistic heavy metal. I LOVE these guys!!! Sound sort of like King's X, but better. This band was my first "alternative" Christian band to get into. I have all their CD's now and they just kept getting batter and better. They are now broken up.
- Morella's Forest: Awesome band. Their music really grows on you. I have a couple of their CD's and I like them a lot! It took me a long time to get to see them in concert. I think the count got up to 4 missed concerts. I finally got to see them, and it was worth the wait. (See also T & N)
- Tourniquet: Speed metal. (I mean light speed!!!) Also, the best drummer ever. He has the biggest drum-set that I have seen. Put it this way, they had to make a video of him playing some of their songs because people could not believe that he could really be playing that fast!
- Poor Old Lu: This band is no longer together (because the band members got married and had to go their separate ways), but they still ROCK!!! Their CD's are a must get! I think that they are one of the best bands ever. Their guitar player, Aaron Sprinkle, is one of the reasons I want to learn to play the guitar. They might get back together and make some more albums. I hope so!
- Joe Christmas: This band is really good. My roomie introduced me to them, and I have been humming their songs ever since. I wish that they hadn't broken up because I wanted to see them in concert. Maybe they will get back together so I can see them.
- Pedro the Lion: Mellow rock, at least I think so. But, it's good, and Christian. Thought-provoking lyrics.
- Rose Blossom Punch: This band contains former members of Poor Old Lu. And as you would expect they ROCK! They are broken up for a while.
- Aaron Sprinkle: Former member of Poor Old Lu and Rose Blossom Punch, but is out on his own now. One word: WOW!
- Jesse Sprinkle: The former drummer of Poor Old Lu. This guy can do it all! Check out his band The World Inside.
- Denison Witmer: Soft, soothing acoustic music from a talented songwriter.
- The Normals: Great band. Deep lyrics. Excellent music.
- Raspberry Jam: If you like female-lead bands this is a band for you. My friend from back home is the one that got me started listening to them, and I still listen to them. It's just good stuff. I don't think the band is together anymore.
- MXPX: (*) It took me awhile to convince myself that I liked these guys. But when I heard their latest CD, I knew that they were good. It is just quality punk music.

- Joy Electric: This stuff took a while to grow on me, but if you're into electronica you will love this! (See also BEC)
- Ghoti ("Fish") Hook: When I saw these guys in concert, they were pretty "goofy" on stage. Then after hearing them play and moshin', all I could say was "Man, that's just GOOD punk!" They have matured alot as a band and are now one of my favorites. (See also T & N)
- King's X: (*) A veteran Christian band with a trademark sound described as "air-tight guitar/bass/drums arrangements -- equal parts power chords and intricate harmonies -- with lyrics that reveal varying degrees of both spiritual longing and security" in CCM Magazine.
-
Puller: Excellent rock.
- Blindside: Great hardcore band from Sweden.
- Danielson Family: This band is for those who have "different" musical tastes. At first, you may think that it's weird, but when you realize that they write their lyrics the first thing in the morning, make copies for the other band members, go to the studio, and record whatever comes out. Then you see how musically talented they are. (See also T & N)
- Crucified: Thrash slash old school punk band. They are now broken up.
- AP2: Excellent industrial hardcore.
- Circle of Dust: Industrial hard-core!
- Aleixa: Techno beats with an industrial edge led by slick female vocals.
- Grammatrain: A very good Seattle-style rock band. They have broken up.
- Klank: If you want industrial music (like Nine Inch Nails, etc.) look no further.
- POD (Payable on Death): (*) Similar style to Rage Against the Machine. I've seen them in concert and it ROCKED!!! Very good stuff. Sonny, the lead singer, shared his testimony.
- Starflyer 59: Melodic noise pop. Great music for when you just want to chill. (See also T & N)
- Chatterbox: The perfect example of pure Industrial. They are now broken up.
- Havalina Railroad Company: Swing, folk, jazz, and pirate music.
- Halo Friendlies: These chicks can rock!
