The years 1996 and 1997 will go down in history as the years human beings on the planet Earth discovered two different ways to levitate physical objects.
The first technology was discovered early this year, and is merely the application of a strong magnetic field (16 Teslas, which is 1,000,000 times stronger than the Earth's magnetic field which is actually quite weak) to any organic object. The 16-T magnetic field causes carbon atoms to resonate an equal and opposite magnetic field because the electrons are forced to spin in the opposite direction. So far, frogs and other small animals have been levitated 6-feet (2 meters) in the air. A larger machine is now being built that can levitate humans. Apparently, a 16-T strength is all you need to induce the resonance effect, larger surface areas on the generator being needed to levitate larger objects. This device may assist in levitating burn victims, or be used for entertainment in amusement parks.
The second technology was discovered in late 1996, quite by accident. This is the technology that may eventually be used in space propulsion. Nobody really understands why a Podkletnov generator works, just that it does work! A 12-inch (30 cm) diameter disc made of a superconducting material such as Yittrium-Barium-Cobalt is accelerated by magnetic fields to spin at 2000 revolutions per minute. Then, reverse magnetic fields are applied to halt the spinning disc very suddenly. Any object that is suspended (by a string) above the disc loses 2% of its own weight during the time the disc is decelerating! If two Podkletnov generators are stacked one on top of the other, any object suspended above this arrangement loses 4% of its weight, and so on. Experiments are now being conducted to achieve 100% weight loss or greater. Amazingly, if a Podkletnov generator is on the ground floor of a building, any and all objects immediately above the generator on all of the upper floors of that building will drop in weight. Apparently, a Podkletnov generator is a "gravity shield" that blocks out the gravity waves radiating from the Earth like sunglasses block out rays from the sun.
A Podkletnov generator requires very little electricity to run because the spinning disc is thin, light, and extremely magnetic-sensitive because it's a superconductor that is at a very cold temperature, where it is the most conductive. Presumably, if a Podkletnov generator is put under one end of a ferris-wheel arrangement, the wheel will turn because one side is always lighter than the other. This can be used to generate electricity in a clean and affordable way.
Many Podkletnov generators put on a spacecraft would enable us to build very large, affordable, non-polluting, and energy-efficient spacecraft which would be able to lift off vertically with no need of runways from anywhere on the Earth with no (or a very small) gravity penalty. Such spacecraft can at least be used to explore Mars, Europa, and Titan, the only other sources of water, and hence the possibility of primitive life forms, in the Solar System.
