06/03/08 I WOKE-UP THE OTHER DAY TO FIND A HUGE PILE OF VINTAGE 50S THRU 90S NECK TIES IN MY BACKYARD.PERHAPS ALIENS W/O NECKS LEFT THEM FOR ME TO PASS THEM ALONG CHEAP TO SOMEONE CRAFTY, WHO COULD UTILIZE THEM FOR FUNKY SKIRTS, HANDBAGS, BELTS AND OTHER THINGS MY NONE-CRAFTY BRAIN CANNOT FORSEE. I WOULD ESTIMATE THE PILE TO BE ABOUT 20 TO 30 THOUSAND TIES (AROUND 45 HEFTY BAGS WORTH). MANY ARE SKINNY 60S ROCKABILLY, FAT 70S AND DESIGNER BRANDS, SUCH AS CHRISTIAN DIOR, COUNTESS MARA, DON LOPER, OLEG CASSINI, BROOKS BROTHERS,WEMBLEY, OSCAR DE LA RENTA..ETC..MOST ARE IN VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT SHAPE, JUST IN NEED OF A QUICK IRON. I NEED TO GET RID OF THESE FAST. THE FIRST $1000 GETS THEM ALL. OR FILL A HEFTY BAG FOR $100. EITHER WAY, I'D RATHER SEE SOMEONE MAKE SOME MONEY W/THESE, RATHER THAN SEE THEM DONATED TO GOODWILL. BRING YOUR VAN, AS THIS IS FOR PICK-UP ONLY. 02/11/08 LOOKING FOR ANY AIRCRAFT COMPANY TIES TO GO INTO A COLLECTION FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, CAN YOU HELP?? FRED FINCH UKFMMKEYNES@KPMG.CO.UK
02/03/08 I am into bolos more than anything else -- but I do have an appreciation for any piece of fine neck wear. I recently stumbled upon a Christian Dior black silk tie. It has a rabbit figure (white) which has red (almost like veins) on top of the white figure. It is placed in front of (what looks like) a two sided spear of navy blue. My step father estimates that is circa 50s original Dior and may even have a *significant* value attached? I would like to know a little more about it if anyone has information. It looks very cool -- if you want some pictures of it, or other KNOT ties I seem to have accumulated, let me know. Thanks yall! Nicholas nicpic3008@comcast.net

10/08/07 I have a framed celebrity's handmade tie. Designed, mounted and autographed by British Fashion Designer Bruce Oldfield. Oldfield has designed dresses for many actresses such as Charlotte Rampling, Catherine Zeta Jones, Singers such as Barbra Streisand and Royalty such as Princess Diana. Oldfield donated it to the Jeeves "Crisis at Christmas" Charity Celebrity Tie Auction held on the 21st December 1993. The frame measures about 24 inches by 30 inches and is glass fronted. It is open to offers and all money collected is going to charity. Thank you for your time Bob Hughes rf.hughes@virgin.net
10/07/07 I was going through some of my fathers stuff and found an old necktie. It was literally in the trash box when I noticed that it had a hidden surprise...if you unfold the widest part of the tie, a beautiful woman in a 2 piece swimsuit is hiding there. She looks vaguely familiar. It might be Jane Russell?? It is stars and lines on the "outside" with the caption "stars above you" at the bottom. It has a tag that says: Since 1922 Jay Elam and Sons Huntington Park, Calif and another tag: Styled by Creveling of California. It also still has the original price tag...$1.50 It is very cool... Any ideas? Lynn sportsmomof34@sbcglobal.net Thanks
10/06/07 Fellow Collectors! Just a heads-up. As with many of you, I am sure that preservation, restoration and PROPER cleaning services are of the utmost importance to you in caring for you beautiful, rare and unique pieces of wearble art...correct? I personally have been collecting for the last several years and would not entrust any of my collection to any other cleaners then VANS cleaners of 3512 E. Coast Hwy Corona Del Mar, Ca. 92625 (949) 673-4920 (Yong Park, Owner) That said, I have all my ties professionally cleaned and carefully steamed with properly rolled edges. VANS is one of the top vintage clothing/wedding gown restorers in So. Cal!! I have brought them several ties that even needed new silk lining and they have been able to completely restore the lining of some of my rarest ties as well as difficul to repair month holes, snags etc. It is not unusual for them to completely and carefully disassemble each tie..WOW! Prior to cleaning, original components, i.e. ! lining, stitching and tie material are often separated for spotting, repair, treatment and finally VERY careful cleaning of each component prior to reassembly with the original stitching. The ties are then custom tailored back to original configuration with ends to best V proportion and finally a proper steam treatment carefully rolling, not pressing, the edges. I take pride in preserving these beautiful pieces of wearable art and want to make sure that I make every effort to properly restore, preserve and clean our ties for the BEST possible result and the next owner/generation's enjoyment. I dare you to give them a call with that one tie I know you have been debating restoring. I think you will be shocked at the AWESOME outcome. Best of luck and hope this is helpful. 7/9/07 I have a question regarding Countess Mara neckties: The early ties have the CM crown painted onto the fabric. The later ones of the 70's have the CM Mongram stitched onto the fabric, and the current ones have no CM on the front at all. Does anyone know when the changes took place? Thanks! -Jackie Diano jackie@diano.com
