Brian Greig, Instrument Maker
Brian Greig was born in New Zealand. Brian now works and lives in Melbourne, Australia.
Brian's main passion is astronomy, and the creation of original astronomic items.
Brian builds the occasional garden sundial, globe, planispheric astrolabe and orrery. He starts with sheets of brass, bronze and copper, and cuts, screws or welds them into beautiful objects.
Brian owns a vast collection of historic books, and manages a shop called 'Southern Skies', which specialises in astronomy-related products. The booklet he wrote on Halleys Comet is still selling well. He is currently preparing a history of the Great Melbourne Telescope.
Usually busy providing for museums and patrons, Brian also displays his work at the Melbourne Arts Centre Sunday Market.
Brian enjoys illustrating astronomic principles first-hand to the enquiring public.
