The High Desert

I live in Ridgecrest, California. It is located on the junction of Hwy 395 and Hwy 178. It sits adjacent to the China Lake Naval Base. It was featured as the earthquake capital of the world in a Sony commercial because we do have a lot of small fault lines locally and are subject to swarms of earthquakes. Almost all of them are too small to be felt by humans. In fact, lots of movies, music videos, and commercials have been filmed here.

There are ghost towns and high mountain valleys within an hour drive. Add another hour and you can reach shopping in malls, Death Valley and skiing. One more will get you to the very heart of Los Angeles and all the shopping, theaters and my personal favorite, Disneyland or to the Palm Springs area. If you're willing to go just a little more than another hour you can be in Las Vegas, enjoying the excellent skiing at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort, or almost to San Diego.
