1Personal notes by Jeff McQueen on Alexander Babel.
Alexander was a Civil War veteran and served in Company "E" of the 192nd Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry for about one year in 1865.

2Personal notes by Jeff McQueen on James Babel.
James was listed as a labourer in the 1860 Census of Auglaize Township, Paulding County, Ohio.  In 1860 James was working for Frederick Ruffner, who was a lumberman from Switzerland.  James Babel was a Civil War veteran, and served in the 186th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry(O.V.I.), Company C, of the Army.  James served in the Civil War from 1861 to 1865 (3 yrs., 8 months).  James participated in Sherman's famous march across the South, which left many towns and homes in flames.  James brother-in-law, George Matty, also served in the 68th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry.  James may have me his wife through serving with her brother in the Civil War.

James' family name is spelled "Bable" and "Babel" depending on which census you read.  Many family records show his name spelled "Bable.  "Babel" is the correct German spelling of the name.  The name is spelled "Babel" on Lydia Ann Margaret Boutwell's birth certificate.

4Personal notes by Jeff McQueen on Diana Forsythe.
Some census records show Diana's first name as "Diadama," but this is not correct.  Melva Boutwell who is still alive in Ohio personally told me that her grandmother's name was "Diana."

Austin was a toolmaker for the Hudson Motor Company of Detroit, Michigan.  Austin's death certificate indicates that he died from a motor running in a closed garage.  It is believed that Austin committed suicide because he had been caught by the police making "bath tub" gin at his home in Detroit.  Austin was distraught, since he felt that he had damaged his family name.  Austin is buried at Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit.  Austin was raised by his uncle, John Babinger, since his parents had both died of Typhoid in 1895.  On Austin's death certificate his mother's name is spelled "Roxie Knipe."  The 1880 Census of Springfield Township, Williams County, Ohio (page 663 A) indicates that John Babinger and his wife Alice were living with William and "Roxie."  Alice and Roxie were sisters.

Austin's last residence was 3606 W. Lafayette in Detroit, Michigan.
