Descendants of Christopher Babel

Most of the information on the following pages was provided to me by the wife of my third cousin once removed, Doris Bable, and my fourth cousin twice removed, Jeff McQueen.  We are all descendants of Christopher Babel.  While originally spelled Babel, the variation "Bable" seems to have been used off and on by the generations as they saw fit.  "Babel" is the correct German spelling.  It is the belief of many family members that the name Babel is of Jewish origin.

Christopher Babel (born 1769 in New Jersey, died July 27, 1853 in Cross Creek Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania.)  He married Lydia about 1788.  Together they had nine known children.  There may have been more.  Family stories indicate a total of fourteen children.  Christopher fought under General Sinclair in the French-Indian War.  Enlisted in the Militia in Hagerstown, Maryland in 1791. Christopher Babel is buried at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Cross Creek Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania.  A monument in the cemetery where Christopher is buried lists Christopher as having served in the French-Indian War.

According to various branches of the Babel family, "Lydia" was Native American.  However, no one has any documentation to substantiate this claim.  This information comes only from family stories.
